Description
This was a character art request from SWAG (Star Wars Art Gallery), where I have a gallery of work focusing on Star Wars art.Yes, I know Devaronean females are covered with hair and don't have horns, but I think that's a completely stupid concept, so I came up with this.
The important thing was that the person requesting the character was fully satisfied, and others agreed that Devaronean females should look like my interpretation.

Hey! I really love your work here and agree with you, love the concept and idea! honestly if you ask me the "female Devaronian" we have should be the female Wookiee and this should be the true female Devaronian. I think Lucas just didn't care at all about this race when he created them like how when he created most Star Wars races, he just abandoned them to create 500 more. I think the Devaronians got kinda stuck and it wasn't until Old Republic that they started to become even slightly of a recognizable race but even then their Wookieee females are still not touched at all. In my mind the "female Devaronian" seriously should be how Wookiee women look and your version s hould be how female Devaronians look
anyways i ask all this because i was curious if you would be willing to take a request or comission (perferably request) designing my own Devaronian girl inspired by your ideas. That is if you still are on this site

Yeah, when I heard how a Dev female was supposed to look (after drawing this image) I was stunned. It makes no sense. I just wonder if it wasn't a 3rd party that created them for some expanded universe thing, because they never appear in the movies as far as I know.
I wasn't taking any commissions when you first wrote this post, as I was way too busy, but I am now. I have no idea if you would still be interested, but here is some information on commissions: www.zakhennessey.com/sale.html

Hmmmmm thanks for the heads up but i dont think i can spend that much currently but yeah i know right? If there is even a tiny thing to be happy about Disney retconning so much shit, its i hate the design of female Devaronians. Like their design should be female Wookiees dont you think? If you say those furries are female Wookiees that makes sense but they have nothing in common with Devaronians which makes no sense ><

Thanks! The original had more color variation, and this was actually a happy accident. I covered the image with a gradient map that was just supposed to be for the light sabers, and I liked how it came out so I kept it.

Just a little criticism. Devaronian females look nothing like the males. They looks like wolf women. Look it up on Wookiepedia

Dont feel bad about the appearance with the "the females have hair thing" They all dont actually. Darth Maladi and one of the other characters from Star wars legacy does not have hair all over them. [link] i forgot the other character name but i can find it

Hey, I LOVE the furry lady devaronians. They're awesome and I think the DRASTIC gender dimorphism is really unique.
That's why my Devaronian character is furry.
But, hey to each their own. They fact that you didn't stick to the furry look doesn't take away from the coolness of the image. Good work.

I had no idea that they were so different when I drew it. But yeah, people liked the look. It's good that you like the furry version - I still don't even know what they look like!

You don't? Well just look at my character here!! [link]
I didn't get everything exact, but I figure as long as I got the basics it would be okay. After all, humans can look radically different from each other. But here's some official art if you'd like to see... [link]

Sure thing. I mean why say you hate an idea if you've never even seen what the furry Devs look like?
But thank you. Glad you like my drawing.

Ah, I don't hate anything. And I didn't say I hated female Devs, just that I thought it was a stupid idea. And that's mostly because having not seen a picture, I imagined some tall Elmo type creature or something in my head and it didn't seem cool. Also, I was mad at the things that people said to me about the drawing.
But whatever

But nope!! They're awesome.

It took a lot of lonely hours at my drawing table to draw like I do. And I'm still not as good as I'd like to be. I see stuff some of these other people do and stare in awe and wonder what I've done with my life.

lol! It's a cross-dressing (or transgender) Devaronian Sith! I love it!
Hey, if humans can have cross-dressing and transgender people, then so can other species, right?!
"Yes, I know Devaronian females are covered with hair and don't have horns, but I think that's a completely stupid concept, so I came up with this." -LazarusReturns
Why is it stupid? There are plenty of animals in our world that have genders that looking wildly different than each other. Most commonly in size, but sometimes they may even look like different animals. To me, this just shows that the person who came up with the idea for Devaronian's was pretty clever. I thoroughly enjoy the idea of them. You don't see Science Fiction creators using a lot of their brains these days, but instead they are pandering to the ignorant and easily amused. I love the Devaronian species specifically for this quirky gender trait, and I wouldn't have them any other way.
Of course "furry hate" plays a lot into why people don't like them- because they (duh) look like furries. Lord knows that if something walks on two legs and has hair anywhere but on their heads you have to hate it. And this is coming from a non-furry with no animosity towards the furry community. I am just incapable of comprehending the disdain. But whatever, this is getting ranty and long.
I'd be happy to hear your response(s).

Honestly, I could really care less if they are furry or not. I had no idea when I drew this, having never seen one when I took this request, and still having never seen one. There were just some real jerks when I posted the image who got their little star wars underoos in a bunch, so the whole thing left a bad taste in my mouth, because I thought I was drawing something that people would like.
I have no animosity toward furry things... it's not really a big enough deal for me anymore whether people hate it, with all the other crap that life throws at you.

Actualy if you want to get technecal Female Devaronians look more like Catgirls then they look like what the Male Devaronians look like (If you look them up on the Star Wars Wiki you can see what I mean)

Yeah, a lot of people have told me that. I had no idea when I drew it, and was horribly disappointed when I found out. However, a whole bunch of people liked my version, and many said that in their games, that's how dev females look now.

I like your interpretation. In fact it's awesome.
I'm a Star Wars GM that is always looking for new ideas. While I'm not going to change the race as it's been presented, I am going to have a portion of the females born with horns and no hair.
It will definitely make the race more interesting. [link]

Why the heck not? It's your game, go for it. I just don't find hairy hornless females of the species all that interesting.

Yeah, but if you go over to the Star Wars boards, they all yell at me because Dev females are supposed to be hairy and hornless. Ick. I had no idea what they looked like when I took the commission, but luckily the person who requested it liked the image.

I had another version of this over at SWAG (the Star Wars Artist Guild) that was colored normally, but then I threw a red gradient map over it to start adding a reflected glow, but I liked how it looked red and black and kept it that way.
