I can't give a critique, but I can give a long comment instead. So, here it goes:
"That next place" caught my eye, because it's based on the death theme. This will always be one of the two subjects which tempts me to discuss, besides the love theme. It is a bold concept, concerning that opinions will eternally be different, subjective, but also a very deep and emotional one.
Even the title is inspired, suggesting the fact that we are passing into an unknown domain, into something mysterious and frightening all the same. It refers to a distant place, to THAT place, to a path we will all take someday.
The character is the brave type. He looks into the light with curiosity and courage, he doesn't seem frightened at all. What's peculiar is that he isn't surprised either. Maybe he had a lot of time thinking about this particular moment, so reaching the climax is a long-awaited chapter of the man's journey. Therefor, the expression is perfectly studied and well-thought.
I also noticed that his left fist is closed. Maybe he is holding something dear to him there, maybe it's the image of his beloved, definitely something fragile, too frail even for the light to touch. The scar is an interesting addition to this artwork. It is the reminder of the hurt we all have to endure at some point.
There is one thing I consider it can be improved though. The position of his legs is disturbing, unnatural. They don't fit at all the position of the body, or of themselves. Look closely at this detail and you'll see what I mean.
These being said, I consider this deviation an inspiring and insightful one.
