Did a Monitor Lizard help inspire the design of this Dragon at all?

I use DAS brand. When i was working with air-drying clay, i normally do them in the cooler times of the year. but i am not sure if weather has anything to do with the cracking. which brand do you use?

I've used black jack clay. I've only had a couple of sculpts not crack on me atleast a little bit. Id like to use it again because it's so easy to work with. I've used it at any time of year and it doesn't seem to make a difference.

Actually I've only just gotten acquainted with super sculpey. I kinda like it but I have yet to finish a sculpt with it. I have used aves apoxie sculpt before but it starts to firm up with in a couple of hours. I've tried non drying clay too but I plan on molding and casting my sculpts and I'm sure there would be issues of the detailing staying clean.

WOW!!! May I ask how you painted this? Brush or airbrush? Those colors look so real... like the drake is alive! Did you undercoat the scales with another color? I wish I could paint my sculptures as perfect as this...

Its hand painted, using brush. then a lot of dry brushing techniques.
thank you. i remember priming it with white, but i am not sure. there been numerous times i didnt do undercoats, and sometimes worked well.

I'm fascinated of the effects that can be done with brushes - If you can It seems that I have to improve my dry brushing skills... Thanks for the information!

also consider the kind of paint your using and the brush quality. i used tamiya acrylic model paints. their awesome.

Yes, yes, allways choose the right tools
I use acrylics, too. But they're from another company.
I still need to get a good "feeling" for the color schemes...

I'd use airbrush if I had the know-how Airbrushing is almost a seperate science... But I like working with common brushes! ^^

Yeah, really, like in the Temeraire series.
(if you dont know about the Temeraire series, look it up!)
You know, how the dragons all have names like Excidium (which means either War or Destruction) Volitalius, Maximus, etc, etc.

Isn't Temeraire that one series with the awful first sentence? "The deck of the French ship was slippery with blood; heaving in the choppy sea."
My dad read--well, tried to read--the first of those books. I may get around to reading them eventually. . .
