Predator
12" x 18" Sketch Pad Paper, Pen and Ink, White Out, 1996.
Another old drawing and another one of my favourite movie creature - Stan Winston's Predator.
I bought the revoltech figure:

Not as detailed as the Spawn Toys version but it just looks better and is super posable.
Alien queen is awesome too...

Have you ever thought about doing a series focusing on the Predators?

that'll be fun only if i made a parody.
i like early predator stuff from the first and 2nd movie and the early dark horse comics.
i like the series, but too much have been made about something that i really appreciated when too little of the predators were only revealed. i meant i liked them when they were more mysterious.

Given "Jurassicko Park", a parody sounds neat.
I'm kinda iffy about how I view the series. Considering I like things to even out if possible, the three films with just the Preds, thus a trilogy, doesn't sit well with me. Then there's the AVPs, which according to Wikipedia are part of the "Predator franchise". I'm okay with that, but the first AVP is clearly more in favor of the "Alien" mythos, due to Paul W.S. Anderson clearly liking the "Alien" series more. The Preds aren't dealt with too horribly, but they aren't fully satisfactory either. AVP:R, despite it's narrative problems, works better as a "Predator" movie, as the Xenomorphs are definitely just cannon fodder in the film, mostly due to the Brothers Strause liking the Predator more.
I've noticed in crossovers that one character is usually the focal point of the story, more so than the other. Ex: King Kong vs. Godzilla focuses on Godzilla more, Frankenstein Meets the Wolf Man focuses on Larry Talbot finding a cure through Dr. Frankenstein, Freddy vs. Jason involves Freddy using Jason to make his name known again, etc. And considering in AVP the Predators are hunting the Xenos, one expects the Preds to be of more focus. It didn't fully work out that way with the first shot, but the second try did better.
But to get back to what you said about being mysterious, yes, this is great when done well, but when something becomes franchise material, mystery becomes less of a priority. In the films (I haven't read a lot of the expanded universe stuff) I think the Preds aren't too exposed, but they do lose some mystery as more films come along.

Maybe ill do a 2D series for 'The Freds - happy predator family'. 3D so time consuming.
kinda agree with teh evening out of things. I think the only way to even things out is if someone establish a bigger main human character like ripley or dutch. maybe mahciko noguchi from the 1st AVP comic series or royce from predators or even batman.
'bats vs preds' is one of my fave crossovers of all time. such great art, story and ambience that was created.
i also think that predators are civilised giving them instant contents for story such as morals, ethics, history, technology, science, politics... where in aliens are just beasts. the 1st AVP i find balance with exposure to both, but has more 'alien' elements in it as youve mentioned andersons' liking the aliens franchise. the 2nd one was very Predator heavy, you have the Predaalien which i think looks more liek the predator and a mean lone predator 'cleaner' which stands out.
i agree with yu about preds exposure but more mystery is loss each time they release a film.
Aliens and predators are both movie greats, whatever giger, stan winston, james cameron, mctiernan, scott, the actors from the first series have established, its concrete. i maybe biased and i know there are a lot of good new bood out there. or maybe aliens and predators are just a thing from the 80s and 90s.... bit hard to produce something that you plan to be classic in 15 years.

"The Freds"=Genius ; )
I see what you're saying, but I meant in terms of number of films; pairing off more or less; 1 & 2, 3 & 4, etc. Of course, bearing in mind what I was getting at, the films still aren't even, five in total as it stands. But if you match that with the five "Alien" films (including the upcoming "Prometheus"), you have ten films in all, with the Xenos overlapping into the other series. I agree about "Batman vs. Predator". Given "Predator 2", Batman crossing a Predator is a no-brainer.
The Preds are clearly more civilized (or advanced) than the Xenos, due to their weaponry and tactics, if nothing else. There is an okay balance in AVP 1, but there is still that lingering of favoritism. And "Requiem" speaks for itself, Pred vs. Predalien and her little minions, lol.
I think the loss of mystery is expected, as audiences want something different from each subsequent film, usually. But every Predator film, minus "Requiem" ironically, has a buildup to the big reveal of the starring Predator or Predators.
What the Alien/Predator "Forefathers", so to speak, have established is where it all began, so anything that comes after is definitely subject to their legacy. I think the people following in their footsteps do try to be respectful, it just doesn't always work out without error. Making something that will become "classic" is subject to those who view it as such, or not.

lets see. I am mostly into sci fi and action movies. so Predator..Aliens are tied for i can watch them both at any time.. not like i watch it religiously. but if by chance i catch it on tv, i keep it there lol
the third ill be honest. i'll have to think about. might be something from the classic shaw brothers kung fu series.. or maybe i'll go with 90 percent of every godzilla movie ever made and classify that as one lol

Wow, thats how i treat aliens and predator too.. and they are in my top 3.
everytime i am asked which are my top fave movies, i normally struggle answering.
but i have my default answer(s) which i had to set and is not in particular order:
- Return Of The Jedi
- Aliens and Predator
- LOTR: The Two Towers (the movie that made me like fantasy again)
The godzilla movies wil have to go somewhere in top 10 but which G movie(s)...? now thats another difficult question
everything in predator is great even if its a low budget film; cast, music, creature effects, story, concept, the machismo, the action, the machismo...

hahahhaha that is awesome. Jedi is also my fav of the star wars series. lots of people i know are into Empire. and I feel like I'm the only one going against the grain to so speak but i guess i'm not the only one lol.
i will concur that lord of the rings was done very welll. adn yeah two towers was rather good!
that is difficult to answer about godzilla. i can tell u that there are aspects of each godzilla that i liked. .. well aspects of s few. The one from the 70's was a bit smarter than the previous ones and didn't look as goofy. the 90's one was larger and meaner and wasnt afraid to use his energy beam. the Millennium one i thought the spikes were cool but too different from what im used to. *spikes or dorsal fins. whatever u call them lol* i like how his body charged for the blast. *i also liked that version of the mechagodzilla a lot* the final wars godzilla was more lean and very smart but that move needed better acting. and less people and a less wimpy mothra *yeah i said mothra so sue me lol* That seargant slaughter lookin dude was cool though lol
I liked that the godzilla movies were progressing with blending some effects as time went by. but i long believed that with an american budget and effects team that toho could make a phenomenal film. but let toho do the energy attacks. they know how to do that well. that '98 godzilla was such a debacle. i wanted to like it too really i did. *sigh*
and yes predator was good. and to be honest I even liked both avp movies and predator two and predators. the first avp movie was largely a let down though. but i liked the weapons. I always love the weapons. i liked the concept but the delivery wasnt that great. I actually liked the unrated director's cut of requiem. that predator was what a predator should be. and there were cool weapons and tech and cool elements that fanboys of both series would like. Predators was definitely a good movie but i'm looking for a movie that can at least rival the first. and yes everything about that movie just works. they dont make films like that anymore!

I think people were attracted to the darkness of Empire (in contrast to new hope). i really like space battles – makes 'star wars' literally star wars. The Snow battle from empire was iconic though.
well said with G movies. the character, BG story, art direction...they varied and developed as time passed, which was really cool. its like James bond being portrayed by different actors with different personality but still is james bond.
let the japanese do their sci-fi thing. theyve got wild imagination, which i totally admire. your right with the 90s G, with its heat ray galore. and it didnt look like he was making any effort releasing it. The american godzilla (98) was a ghood design but too far, and 'over-scienced',
over-science fictioned is lots better.
i wasnt too impressed with the avp movies, but its great entertainment. i did like the 'cleaner' character though from avp2.
i liked predators too, but it did not even do half as good as the first. that will be a challenge to any one who wants to do a sequel to this franchise.
also, people have different expectations with movies compared to 20-30 years ago. now, everything can be cooked in the microwave oven.
didnt want to think everythings been done, but maybe they are.

that is a valid point. it was a bit darker indeed. and space battles are fantastic. dunno if u ever watched it but deep space nine in its latter years had some cool space battles as did the opening sequence in first contact. *both from star trek* im sure u knew but i figured i'd say anyway lol... ahh yeah those at at walkers were badass!
indeed let the japanese do their thing. one thing that intrigued me though. remember in the godzilla x mecha king ghidhora movie how they had those future dudes shooting lazers? how cheezy did those look? did they save their special effects budget for the monster's energy blasts? lol. btw. i liked how godzilla was ruthless in that movie. well in those movies in general. i remember when in the mechagodzilla one he started to throttle rodan's neck! i was like ohhhhhhh! lol...
yeah over scienced. but a good design. if they tried to stay a bit more true to the invulnerability to the g man we know it coiuld have been better. u know what. i would even accept the fact missiles could harm it. but i would only accept it if they changed the story a bit. like make it so that godzilla was traveling to ny to fight a monster that maybe mankind accidentally awakened. heck blame that on the french. maybe they fucked around and mutated something nastay and godzilla went to kill it as if its defending its territory *its territory being earth* i could see the military fucking up and attacking godzilla and then matthew broderick's dumb ass convincing them that they should focus on the other monster that is actually trying to kill people. and then godzilla sallies forth and does a heat beam and fuck it up or something along those lines...instead we got a travesty lol
yeah the "cleaner" as u called him was bad ass! he had cool weapons and gadgets. if they make another avp movie they shoudl take like four years to craft it. and it should be in the future. and it should be totally R rated and totally computer rendered. this way they can make the predators the athletic and stealthy hunters that they are. sorry but the 7 foot tall actors lumbering about dont look too fast. lol. they should make it the movie ugly and gritty and dark and unapologetic.. that might fare well.
predators didnt do well in the box office? shame? what is the series missing? are people just not into science fiction like they were in the 80's or something?
i hope everything hasnt been done. maybe there's j ust oo many politics involved. maybe we need some independant companies to just make something themselves. then some true classics can be crafted? what do u think?

didnt watch deep space 9. but i know it was so popular in its era.
i have very similar feelings with G vs KingGhidora movie. no matter how many negative things id say about that movie, it remains one of my faves. The 'other' special effects actually makes my skin crawl from the cheeziness. How bout that cyborg running with the sound effetcs... but yeah, G was so ruthless there that he had to kill that Japanese business man who was a soldier in WW2. and also the reaction of the Jap government when they realized when this Godzilla is almost liek a different godzilla, and the realization of their doom. i just watched that scene you mentioned for G vs MechaG, where G choke-grabbed rodan, that a big in yer face ouch for a pterosaur.
i luv your idea of godzilla 98. thatd be epic and will be loved by G-fans as it remains close to the genre.
i do like the predators in suit(not CG) only if stan winston(rip) is gonna do it. i am not sure if CG will produce the grace of stan winston's predators...
i think everything is just exploited by CGI these days and everyting is done and can be done. but will remain a great challenge for all sci-fi/fantasy movie makers to create that hype or something iconic that will be tatooed to a persons heart and mind.
i hope avp 3 will be awesome. i pray that godzilla 2012 will be worth the wait. i wish theyd make alien 5 as scary as the first. who knows?
