It's the eternal question..."Are you a boy or a girl?"
Yes, indeed! The player characters of Scarlet and Teal! You can name them whatever you want, but the default names for the boy and girl are "Carlos" and "Tia", respectively.
You know what's special about 'em among the heroes? They're slightly older than most Pokemon protagonists (much like Hilbert and Hilda), they're a blonde and a redhead, and they don't have any headgear for once!

These would have to be my favorite trainers, official or fan-made, for all the reasons everybody else already pointed out:
Blond and redhead; It's called variety!
No headgear; Why does everybody else wear a hat?
Girl wears pants; Self-explanatory.
Slightly older; Ash started when he was TEN!?
Also, I usually default to playing a boy, 'cause a boy is what I am, but for these two, it would be a tough choice. Tia's just that awesome. Our culture needs more female heroes.

Wow, finally a girl character that I actually like (among Lyra). And you know why? She actually wears pants!!!

Yeah, I was kinda bothered by the fact that they never wore pants... Especially Dawn in Platinum, considering it's gotten colder. Fanservice just doesn't make sense sometimes.

Possible, but notes sent to me sometimes have a nasty habit of never making it... It's pretty annoying, actually. dA's old note system worked fine; these problems only happen after they "upgrade" stuff...
