Description
Well I am sorry if I placed this in the wrong category but my main point is to make you all clear of several things. My question to you is this: Is my style the SAME (not similar or kinda) as what we called "spirit style?"
I don't think so. So people can start pointing fingers at my gallery and my characters and my way of drawing. It's very rude and disrespectful when ignorant-close minded people won't even take a minute to figure out what they want to say first, examine the case and then judge. Not only am I targeting this for my own gallery, but for each and one of you, Equine artists, who do have a unique style. I found many of them that have nothing to do with the Spirit style and yet we find people coming to your gallery and say, "You Spirit stealer! You thief! You're going to be reported with Dreamworks!"
That's how I did it. I drew in Spirit style for a couple or 3 years. Then I started developing my own style.
Now, back to where I started. Does Lib look just like Rain?
Answer that question yourself.
... unless of course...you're one of those people copying/stealing from other Equine artist's style; they don't deserve this. They've worked too damn hard on their artwork so that a fool comes to rip off their gallery.
If there is a thing I hardly can forgive--is not that people steal my art, or copy my characters about 90%--but steal my style. It is NOT fair.
There is a difference between been inspired, and "lemme copy ur art cuz i like it."
Nu uh.

I can see influence but not EXACTLY like spirit style. So nope it's not the same.
And nope leadmare looks completely nothing like rain either. I'm telling the truth LOL.
The folks who say that either haven't seen spirit that much to know the style differenes or/and pin every damn cartoon horse out there as "spirit"..i've seen SO many do this. I guess it's because spirit is the first animated horse movie so folks think
cartoon horse=spirit since that's all probably most know. lol
i wouldn't worry..most folks who draw cartoon horses face this "spirit" dilemma..

I call it inspired Thank you pookyns
And I agree, just because Spirit was a famous cartoon movie. I don't agree that it's the first animated movie where horses have eyebrows though. Think about the horse from Mulan, or Bella and the Beast, or even the horses from Horseland.

Yeah true. I was mainly talking about it being the first animated horse movie on just focusing on the horses
Well maybe not first I dunno..but I guess the most well-known? Besides the silver brumby series.
There outta be more animated horse films out there lol. It suprises me that there isn't.

I mean, your work is slightly Spirit-based, and there are similarities, but you have put your own twist into it. And a BUNCH of people draw in Spirit-style, so why would it matter?! Stupid people...

I know half of my old gallery was very referenced from Spirit, but from that I know I am not drawing in Spirit style anymore. Although I am still trying to change those nostrils and ears
Thank you I agree with "a BUNCH of people draw in Spirit-style, so why would it matter?"

Poor dear. Why does this seem to always happen to you? I'm sorry you have to put up with all of this ... dA is a place for people to share their artwork, not dump BS drama on people. Besides, what does it matter if people draw in the style of cartoons/movies? Does it really matter? If there's emotion behind a piece, if the artist really pours their own creativity into the art, I don't understand why people make such a big deal.
As for "Spirit style" ... no, they're not similar. The eyes, for one thing ... and I think there's more expressiveness in Lib's eyes than there ever was in the Spirit movie's horses. *shrugs* I think the movie was good for horse fans, but not for artists in the long run. But ... I'm rambling. Still, it makes me feel bad that people keep calling you out like this ... there are people who don't put a scrap of effort into their work ... you put everything ... and that, to me, makes all the difference in the world.

You're style is nowhere near "spirit style", It's actually better. I'm not trashing on any spirit style artists or anything, heck, I love Spirit. I'm only referring to the movie. Those idiots on youtube need some eyeballs.

Your style doesn't look like the one in the screen shot. Gosh, theses people must be blind, how could they not see that they look totally differernt?
And they shouldn't copy your art because everyone takes their very own time to come and create their OWN style.
Gosh people who steal are just jealous and nothing better to do but make people aggitated.

I never thought your art was Spirit-style. Not even close. I can spot so many differences, I could write a text over several word pages pointing them out. O.o
Don't be upset by brainless screamers. Browse for "The Lion King" here on dA - a-ha. All Disney-style. Even OWN lion characters are (mostly) all Disney. Who complains?
And what about all that anime-stuff? Who the hell produces "Naruto"-art in their OWN style? I only know one in a million. The rest copies the style of the comics or show to 100% and not a single one complained, 'cause the people actually want their pictures to look like a screen-grab from the series.
So what's that bickering all about? *sighs*
P.S.: Dunno if you've ever heard of Laturia, she started drawing gorillas in "Tarzan"-style but made up an own story about a pirate-gorilla and his folks. She wantes to publish the story but no one wanted to. "You're style is too disney-ish, we can't publish that, create your own style first." - She changed into an own style but it's still too disney-ish for the people to publish. There go the nitpickers...

Wow that would be great cause some people still don't get the point
Nah, don't do that, but thank you for your support
As for Laturia, I saw her gallery and to be honest it does look like Tarzan & LK style...but hey, there is no reason why she can't publish a story. If she really wants to, she can talk to Disney and let them know that she is just an inspired fan and/or dedicate that book to them Something.
Anyone can and may draw anything they want as long as they're not literally claiming it their own idea/style, so why complain?
Though it would be great if she can start her own style

*lol* It's just envy, I'd say. They can't take away your popularity so they search for something to blackmail you out of pure ... well, envy.
As for Laturia: She deleted all the more individual art out of sheer frustration. She often does that. Deleting tons of pictures. Her English is not that good and a lot of people can't get along with her, so she ends up in a mad "Well then, morons, I delete that stuff"-mood I guess. I've just looked up her gallery myself 'cause I haven't been there for months and have to say... yes, she only left the disney-ish art and deleted nearly everything personal (also characters). Dunno what happened recently. O.o

Lemme guess...some random small and insignificant child that stays on their computer all day and dribbles over their keyboard..sounds about right...
I'm sorry but there is a really BIG question going off in my head...HOW IS YOUR STYLE EVEN LIKE DREAMWORKS!?
Random person: Because it has eyebrows, fool!
Thats probably one example of a person that doesn't understand art AT ALL.
So what if it has eyebrows, you can't immediatly flame their artwork accusing them of copying just because it has human facial expressions, and a popular film featuring horses also had eyebrows...
Sorry for this rant, but i'm just- - SO MAD!

I was just mad because people compare sprit style to yours, there are obvious differences
You must get so aggravatad, i know i would.
Of course nearly every equine artist was inspired by Spirit at some point, but that doesn't mean that every single horse with eyebrows is 'spirit style'
I just wish some kids would grow up.

Well, you can certainly tell your style is loosely based on Spirit style, when I look at the ears, eyebrows, and nostrils. But you have definitely put your own unique spin on eyes, muzzles, shading, and mane and tails. People shouldn't give you such a hard way to go when you have worked so hard to put your own flair on eyebrow-cartoon horses. Sure, the style was popularized by Dreamworks, but that doesn't mean you have completely stolen theri ideas.
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
Leadmare In reply to casca-x [2008-10-28 22:31:22 +0000 UTC]
Of course I am, I was very inspired like most equine artists because it--did NOT gave us the idea of drawing eyebrows to animals--but simply encouraged artists/animators to do so because it's easier to express emotions.
I agree that the way I draw their ears and nostrils is still the same (trying to change that ) but I won't take the eyebrows part. Otherwise you're also telling me that the horses from Horseland/Mulan/Belle & Beast/etc... are in Spirit style? I don't think so.
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
casca-x In reply to Leadmare [2008-11-01 15:07:38 +0000 UTC]
Uhm, I haven't ever seen Horseland, and I didn't pay attention to the horses in Beauty and the Beast. Mulan's horse isn't Spirit-style, his neck is way to thick and his legs are knobbly, he has a Roman nose.
To me, Spirit-style is a cell-shaded horse with few muscle details, piecy, straight manes, eyebrows, and flat eyes. Their conformation usually reminds me of an Arabian cross because of their elegant tails and refined bodies.

BlueLink In reply to ??? [2008-10-28 00:34:57 +0000 UTC]
NOW people can't argue I mean like every cartoon animal has eye brows-cats, dogs, and all that. I don't understand why people don't go after others who draw manga, disney, or stuff like that
