Description
COLORED VERSION (You will notice he does not have eyebrows)The living Marka Ragnos, based on his appearance from "Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi: Dark Lords of the Sith". Living at around 5000 BBY, he was the total paragon of what it meant to be a Sith. Feared, obeyed, and admired among the Sith, he was considered to have been one of the greatest Dark Lords of the Sith in all history, possessing immense power both in combat and through the Force. His scepter, which he crafted through Sith Alchemy, had the power to drain residual Force energy and use it to empower his followers. It was also used as a sheath to house his Sith sword, powered by his immense powers of the Dark Side. When he died--of old age--, his spirit would continue to haunt the galaxy, with the Sith Dynasty requiring his guidance and council, time and time again.
This was pretty fun considering how very vaguely detailed he was in his single appearance in the comics, at least with this appearance, and having to be responsible to fill in those details. Again, this is meant to be his appearance when he was still alive, before he apparently grew whiskers, and had his nose shrunk. Rest assured, I will still be doing his more popular, rotting shade appearance, but much much later.

It's a travesty how little fanart of Marka Ragnos there is.
This is, without a doubt, one of the best pieces ever made.
However, I'm curious: have you ever considered drawing the TotJ version of Marka Ragnos from his funeral procession?

It's hard to say... I mean yes, he was, but there's a statue of Marka Ragnos in Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy that has him looking very human-like, so it's hard to say what his features are really supposed to be, or if they're both canon.

yeah that statue looks human but his ghost has visible cheek tendrils. wikia states that he was hybrid so both are basically true

Oh, wow........awesome! Powerful, commanding and sinister - but not mindlessly evil, like so many Sith are depicted as.

He did not have whiskers and nose shrunk after death. The Exar Kuun arc was done BEFORE the Sadow arc, and that is why Sadow and Ragnos have a more human appearance. They decided to change that and focus more on the sith heritage and gave them a different appearance

Haha yeah, I was just joking around... or was I? In Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy, a statue can be seen modeled after the living Marka Ragnos sitting on his throne, which appears to be based on his appearance from the Exar Kun arc, while his spirit, when it appears, is based on his Golden Age of the Sith appearance. So it seems that both looks are canon. Meaning, the only explanation that can be given, in all seriousness, is that Marka Ragnos did go through a rather dramatic make-over while in life.

Sachiko-chan In reply to LeadZero [2010-10-19 04:52:33 +0000 UTC]
Ah but no.. no makeover in life, simply an artistic change of direction between the books. Golden age of the sith featuring lords with a less human appearance was published later than dark lords of the sith.
But who cares really.. both are interesting looks and which represents the real Ragnos is a mere quibble.. I like both versions myself and I very much like your drawings
