Description

A new dress! Yay! It’s been awhile since I’ve made one.

I tried out a new pattern. It’s much more complicated than my previous ones, but I think the result speaks for itself. Actually puffy sleeves! They are not stuffed so they’d unpuff every time I touched them so I forgot to puff them back up in some pictures. But they are super puffy.

The skirt was trouble. I had to raise the waist up twice to get it to sit right and even then, it sat awkwardly anyway. It caused me a pretty big heap of trouble but I think the end result is worth it. The actual skirt is super wide then I used a thread and just pulled it into bunches then pretty much sewed the bunches straight onto the body. The skirt is massive.

Overall, the new pattern works well, though I may take the skirt in for future designs. (It also came with a glove pattern so NO MORE SOCKS YAY!)

Everything is cotton except for the gloves, which are spandex. The gem is acrylic.

This is a commission and is not for general sale, though I have plans to make other versions of Peach and the princesses in the future.

I may take some more photos with the hoard of Mario plushies I own.

I added this piece to my favorites a day or two ago and haven't been able to get it out of my head. I keep thinking of it and wishing I owned it myself for my dolls! Using the help FAQ to make sure my points are accurate for you. e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s… " width="15" height="15" alt="" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="391" title=" (Smile)"/> FAQ #95: What is the Critique Feature and how do I use it?

Vision - I do appreciate your posing of the doll with Tanooki Mario in concept but in execution I think it could have gone better. He's much larger than the Barbie doll which is quite opposite of the classic Mario-Peach sizing. with a little photo-trickery you could have posed the doll further from Mario to make him appear smaller. In whole, the dance doesn't really work since they appear to be resting on the ground (or in a hedge?) and so appear stand-still.

Originality - It surprises me that I have not seen many Peach dresses for Barbie dolls! You followed her pattern much cleaner than many people would be able to do - the bustles, puffy sleeves, and hem lines really don't stray from her design and I praise you greatly for that. While keeping to her design doesn't exactly fall in line with "originality" it certainly is original from other artists who want to put their own twist on her.

Technique - This is actually the main reason she's been sitting in my head! Your stitches are absolutely amazing and I'm quite jealous of them. Your fabric choice is perfect, your gathers are all in the correct places, and even your puffs work! There's not much more I can say on that: your seamstress-ing is just perfect. Your photography technique could use some work but that's really not what this piece is about and so I did not bother docking even a part of a star for it.

Impact - Since your stitch work does blow my mind and it does make me think a whole lot about things I'd like to learn and do, this was the easiest to rate. I did go ahead and dock the half star here for your photography which does not impact me other than wishing it was better angled, posed, or otherwise better showing off your beautiful stitchwork. The doll you put your dress on could have also been styled much nicer - brushed hair or even a crown would have pulled her together.

All in all I hope to see more dresses from you. e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s… " width="26" height="18" alt="" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="455" title="I salute you!"/>

Hi! Your piece has been featured in my Feature Challenge this month fav.me/d9t3kv5 as an exceptional piece of artisan craftery! I hope that you'll enjoy any extra attention that it garners for you and that you'll consider participating in the challenge yourself!

I do appreciate it! I'll have to figure out what to do for the dress challenge! None of my current projects have a dress. Perhaps pull out an old one and get a new photo

You're welcome! Perhaps! I'm hoping for newbies but I'm always a fan of new pretty dress photos too!

I once did a picture of a... clotheless barbie.  Not entirely clotheless.  It wore an army hat, a gun, and it rode on Bullseye.

I'm loving this a lot. I also love the Mario in the background. Rosalina and Luma would be great additions to your gallery.

I do plan on making a Rosalina. I need to find the perfect fabric for her.

Wow. You made this? It's actually awesome.

It's cute how Tanooki Mario holds Peach.

Blonde Barbie was a great idea for Peach!

Thanks! I'm glad you like it! I had to take several photos before I could get Mario to properly hold Peach and not drop her (shameful!)

Blond barbie fits so well for Peach!

It took quite a few shots to get one that I was satisfied with.

very nice princess peach dress. i was thinking to myself-they make these? and then read your comment.
i can't wait to see more commisions, and maybe a daisy or rosalina dress along with it.

I'm glad you like it!

I definitely have plans to make more princesses, both modern and classical (and maybe a power up or two). I have the perfect yellow for classic Daisy. I'm still looking for a good fabric for Rosalina.

I'm very surprised a Princess Peach fashion doll has not hit the market (or at least in America)
and an action figure like guy Mario. That would be the coolest!

I'm honestly surprised too. I collect mario toys. I have a rather sizeable collection, but they're all plastic or plush. But I had never seen a doll before. The mario figmas are out, and I can only hope that the girls will get one too eventually.

Peach is probably my most popular commission. I plan on making various forms so there can be a whole collection for mario fanatics like me.

Well, in the Mario World, there really isn't a selection of female characters
and Peach has been the only one for the longest time
Did you ever watch the cartoon when she was a redhead and called Princess Toadstool?

Leaf-nin In reply to autumnrose83 [2015-01-23 00:21:19 +0000 UTC]

That is true, though Peach was playable in SMB2. And you did get to rescue Daisy in Super Mario Land, which was an incredibly difficult game for its time. (still, really)

Did I watch it. I have the box set.

Used to have the boxed set. Let my brother borrow it and his boys destroyed it.
Never got reimbursed either.
Stopped loaning him shit after that and my original Fantasia on VHS tape also got torn up.

I have Super Smash Brothers for GameCube. Do not have any after that but want them.
don't think I played Super Mario Land, I played Super Mario World (unless that's what you meant)

Leaf-nin In reply to autumnrose83 [2015-01-23 22:00:42 +0000 UTC]

That's unfortunate.

Super Mario Land was the first mario handheld game. It was colorless, everything was white or black, and it was for the original game boy. That game, Mario traveled to Sarasaland to rescue Princess Daisy from the alien Tatanga. Super Mario World came out much later.

Oh i see! No, I do not think I payed that, but I had friends that did.
I wasn't allowed a GameBoy for the longest time

I saved up my allowance, raked extra leaves, so I could buy that old gray clunker. I ended up trading it in for a purple translucent Color years later, which surprisingly enough, still works.
