Description She's way too small for a bear hunt, but with some training she'll be promoted officially. There's plenty of time for that, no need to rush things.

I have a follow up couple of sketches for what happens to the frog in question once it's been captured, but those aren't finished yet

I never actually see frogs when I'm by the water, I just hear their screams of panic and then a splash  if you don't count the tree frog we found in the garden that I snatched on the first opportunity. but there wasn't a pond for him to jump in.
this frog is clearly frozen in terror at the sight of the mighty hunters on the prowl.

Cain almost looks mischievious, he might be planning to buck her off as a prank. He's too responsible to fall to temptation, Gaia on the other hand would probably do it. Besides, Lear clearly trusts him a lot, why betray that?

He looks uncharacteristically happy, who is this strange man? he probably needs more scars.

oh shoot I just realized it looks like he's about to swat his tail on the lilypad to stun the frog. wasn't my intention but a very clever scheme indeed Cain you clever boy. Clearly an experienced hunter at work.

I originally meant for Lear to looks nervous and holding on for dear life, but she looks happier like this. clearly she's been on this ride before.

Aw this is pretty cute, it looks like Lear is like 'now you just stay right there Mr Frog, don't move so I can pounce at you' - and the frog is just like *doesn't understand her language* (it's so adorable though! Keep that one as a pet, it's too cute to roast)

I kind of want to say that Cain has no idea she's there and is enjoying his alone time 'at last I can smile instead of having to put on the show of not knowing how - ohmygod Lear, what are you doing there???'

Or else he looks like he's about to do something potentially mean, like yes, flick his tail so the frog leaps aside and Lear plops into the water - 'survival of the fittest, you must now swim all the way home as a failure, or drown - it's as nature intended'

But that would be cruel - he's pleased with her frog spotting skills - next week they'll see how quickly she can spot a bear (and not just Quint hiding in the foliage - a real bear)

I like how Lear looks kind of terrified with the puffed up tail 'that's him, that's the one whose been threatening me with his beady frog stare!'

I wonder if she can make the leap and nab him. A fine snack he shall make (once his cuteness grows tiresome)

she needs a more efficient weapon than simple "pouncing" lol. She's looking for frogs to turn into princes. I imagine it's the kind that blinks one eye at a time and gulps awkwardly.

lol she can't be much of a pudge if he didn't even notice her climbing on him. his scales must be very tough, or he's taken so many beatings in fights that he's lost some sensation lol. or the water numbed him.
*does a capering dance along his back and slips into the water*
dang daddy Cain, you mean.
she's earned her right to ride by spotting dinner. XD I find the image of Quint humoring them by hiding for her to find, extremely funny.

she's more worried about slipping and falling in than the frog lol. "that's him officer!" isn't there a disney cartoon or something where the kid screams when they hear a frog?

she could leap, yes, but there's nothing to land on but water.
lol he's one of the ones kept in a jar for his ambient vocals.

Well she’s currently a novice so she has to start perfecting her pounce before she can move on to using tools to aid her! You don’t want whatever prince this one is if that’s the case! He probably blinks one eye at a time and gulps awkwardly as a royal too (frog taur, such impressive thighs)

She is but a feather. I’m not entirely certain how much sensation scaled creatures have in each scale. I know they’re connected but with things like alligators their skin is so tough that people can actually operate on them without bothering with anaesthetic, but I’m sure snakes have to feel their prey in their grasp if they’re constrictors so they must have sensation in their scales, or at least, under them. Are they like fingernails where you still feel stuff? He could have been bobbing under like a duck with his ass out of the water, Lear leapt on it like a stepping stone.
I imagined her sliding off the end of his tail into the water.
LIFE is mean, not Daddy Cain!

Such a juicy frog too, the biggest of the appetisers.
Quint could be conned into accepting it as stealth training, he can terrorise the tiddlers like a real bear, what’s not to accept??? He’d be bored enough! The older kids do that on occasion I expect, to help train the munchkins in being more alert and aware of their surroundings. Although they never tell them that it’s one of the other tribe-mates hiding, they let the little ones believe it’s a real bear so it’s got much more impact and they’ll take it seriously. Maybe that’s how they ascertain who would be good at foraging and hunting and generally doing things beyond the safety of the village.

Or Quint just does it for fun.

But there’s someone there to catch her so she’s fine (imagine if this is her first swimming lesson too, and Cain is mean like my older sister and just dunks Lear under without warning, hence the expression - oh how shocked she shall be!)
Nah I imagine she was taught to swim much earlier considering where she lives.
Hmm I’m not sure, is there?

Ah but she’d have nabbed her prey! The true test of skill will be keeping a hold of it (has a special frog belt she ties them to by the legs)
Lol they spent ages listening to all the various croaks and HIS is the best. They were in need of a baritone after they had the last one for breakfast

Aww this is adorable! It's so weird to see Cain so cute and shy(?). I really like how you did the coloring here and the way the greenery makes the water look so full of plant life.
