Description Name: Weasel Bat
Average Lifespan: 8-10 years
Average Length: 11-13 inches excluding tail
Average Height: 15-23 inches
Average Wingspan: 20-36 inches
Litter size: Single (common), twins (common), or triplets (uncommon)
Other: Females, on average, are 10-15% smaller than males. | Cave weasel bats become sexually mature at 6 months of age, though a successful litter is not guaranteed until after they reach one year of age. Forest/jungle weasel bats become sexually mature at one year of age.

Habitat:
    • Some weasel bats can be found in mountainous areas, staying to the caves. These particular subspecies will
eat insects, unlike their close cousins. Cave weasel bats are a bit smaller despite their wingspan being the same,
and have smaller eyes with weaker eyesight. They enjoy dark, damp places to keep the thin membrane from
becoming dry, though they often dig dens into the cave walls to hold themself, their mate, and any offspring.

    • More commonly weasel bats can be found wherever an abundance of foliage is found. A dense jungle or forest
is where they feel most comfortable, making homes either underground near thick foliage or in a hollow space
of a tree. Here, the weasel bats are larger, their eyes alert, as always for any signs of predator or prey. They
still enjoy damp spaces and will usually find a stream or river to return to in order to find a mate.

Diet:
    • Cave weasel bats feed on a strictly-insect diet. Any insect will do; grasshoppers, wasps, even spiders and
tarantulas. A spider's web makes a good snack for a youngster. In some caves with mineral deposits, a sick
weasel bat may lick the walls of a cave to receive help for their illness.

    • Forest/jungle weasel bats have a more wide variety to choose from. Insects are still a main source of protein,
however fruits and foliage also come into play. Berries are a particular favorite among the females.

Behavior:
    • Quiet and reserved, weasel bats found in caves will be shy to show their faces. With limited eyesight they are
keen on keeping to their dens, only leaving when food or water is a necessity. While they live in large groups
(up to 6 or 7 mated pairs, not including their kits), individuals are more closely bonded with their lifelong mate
and any kits they may have. Some kits, once grown, may leave to find their own group and mate, but should
they return, family members recognize them and act friendly in the reunion.

    • A forest or jungle weasel bat is vocal, mimicking the calls of other animals as well as maintaining their own set
of calls and warnings. Most commonly a mated pair is for life, however if presented with a mate who is not fit
to care for the kits or seems to have bad genes, one will end up leaving the other for a more suitable partner.
This subspecies in particular, however, do not stay in groups; instead they stick to their mated partner, though
sometimes certain kits may demand on staying until they find their own life partner, helping take care of the
new litters that may happen to come. Family are extremely affectionate, and memory for relatives is some top
priority as to not ruin their genepool. They are wary of bigger species though can warm up to them if given the
opportunity, unlike the cave weasel bat.

Coat/Pigment Mutations:

    • Albinism (Cave - rare / Forest - rare)

    • Leucism (Cave - rare / Forest - uncommon)

    • Melanism (Cave - uncommon / Forest - rare)
