Description: Are there any leopards in South America?? NOPE! Because it's inaccurate! How about the 'leopard' of South America, but we all know that the jaguar is an alpha predator, but this little spotted cat was this one! The Ocelot! Ocelots actually lived in from Brazil, to almost near the border between USA and Mexico. Smaller than leopards and jaugars, ocelots are the biggest of the small spotted cats, the most common cat species in its range, best known, and arguably the most beautiful. These little cats, are nocturnal and crepuscular, which they are active at night, dawn and dusk, so they are able to hunt rarely in the day, especially cloudy and/or rainy days. They can rest on some places they go, like tree branches, depressions from the base of the trees, or under the fallen trees. The common ocelot is closely related and strongly resembled to margays and oncillas, but oncillas would more interested to focus on the tree-dwelling marsupials, while margays are not as selective as them. The word "ocelot," comes from the Latin name, is "cellatus," meaning "having little eyes," or "marked with eye like spots," because of their spots and stripes on their fur coat. Ocelots had predators, like jaguars, pumas, eagles, and boa restrictors.
