Description
Characters: Pumcha , Flashie and Noctur(CRAPPY DRAWING AGAIIIIIIIIIIIN)
Pumcha and Flashie were walking through the forest. They were just coming back from the pond. They had to be slow and careful—Flashie's big belly was about to release its creation soon and Pumcha had no need to hurt his partner in any way.
It was evening. The sun was slowly coming down. Strong stripes of light were shining between the trees making the atmosphere nice and peaceful. Not for the female mulkagra though—she was in constant pain for a few days before and this one was not an exception. She had to stop and lay down.
The male stepped in front of her. "Is everything alright?"
"Can we stay here for a while?" she asked, her head not far from the ground.
"Of course." He sat down and poked her nose. "I'll watch over you."
Her head fell, so did her petals. It was quiet. Not even birds were singing today. Had some other mulkagra eaten them?
She gasped and then screamed right after—the pain was getting worse and worse. Pumcha grabbed her hand and held it tightly.
"That's fine," he whispered. "Breathe. Everything's going to be okay."
Flashie tried her best to do so but was failing miserably. The great fear surrounding her had already made her lose the ability to think clearly. Was this it? Is that what it feels like?
"Just calm down, you're safe," Pumcha continued. He sounded calm on the outside but was really nervous on the inside. What if something goes wrong? After all, he had never seen anybody giving birth before. He was not sure if he is supposed to do something after that.
Just as another thought was about to come up in his mind, he heard another clamour from Flashie as well as a quiet cry. He shook his head. His partner had completely passed out—her breath was finally calm and slow.
The male mulkagra stood up and wanted to figure out what is wrong, but then suddenly, he saw it—a small cub laying and crying beside his partner's tail. It was trying to grab it and bite it but with no success. It was too weak.
Pumcha somehow immediately knew what to do—he jumped to the little one, picked it up and sat down next to Flashie, putting it on his front legs. He started licking it to make it warm while still keeping watch over the female. She deserved some rest, that was for sure.
He looked at his child carefully. Its head was pink and the rest of the coat contained stars on a dark blue sky like Flashie had. Just as he thought there is not anything to tell him it is his, he noticed some black fur on the end of the tail and among the stars, he saw the Aries constellation his coat also embraced. Then he gasped—its yellow petals were torn. Not fully, but enough for him to realise his child might not be able to hear.
Flashie opened her eyes. "P-Pumcha...?"
"Yes?"
"Where are they? W-where are my babies?"
"Here." He grabbed the cub and carefully placed it to Flashie's chest. Soon, it found a nipple and started to suck it.
Flashie laughed crying but then saddened. "O-only one? How is it p-possible?"
"You should be glad it's just one," Pumcha stated, worried. "It must've been very tiring."
"But I thought you wanted at least two..."
"That doesn't matter. What does matter is that you and the little one are okay." He nuzzled her neck and licked her cheek. "Are you able to go to the den? It's not safe to stay here for the night."
"M-maybe if you t-take our child...?"
"Let's try."
Pumcha picked the cub up again. Flashie stood up shaking but found the lost balance eventually. Her partner stepped closer offering support if needed. They started walking towards the den.
A few minutes later, it was dark. Their eyes started shining like flashlights. Just then Flashie noticed the ears of the little one.
"Pumcha, its petals—"
"I know," he sighed.
"I'm so sorry."
"It's not your fault."
"Then whose is it?"
"Nobody's. It was born like that, there's nothing we can do."
"You don't mind?"
"Why would I? It's our child, I'll love it no matter what. Besides, it can live with that. We won't kill it just because it's deaf."
They entered the den and laid down close to themselves, putting the cub between them. They both smiled as it mewled and cuddled with them. Its short fur hid in their long one. It could rest and relax now. It was safe.
"I'm so happy right now, butterfly," Flashie said and petted it. "We should name him."
"Him?"
"Yes, him. Didn't you see?"
"No, I didn't. Anyway, any suggestions?"
She thought about it for a while. "Noctur."
"Why Noctur?"
"My grandfather had also this night sky coat. And his name was Noctur. We should name our child after him."
"Was he special for you?"
"Very special. He helped my mother with raising my siblings and I when our father died. He was the nicest creature I knew."
"Then Noctur it is. I don't have any other ideas honestly." He started stroking his son's head. "Welcome home, Noctur."
Noctur whimpered and looked at his father. He finally opened his eyes.
"This is your dad, ladybug," Flashie said and Noctur glanced at her as well.
"Wait, can he hear us?" Pumcha raised his eyebrows. "Noctur?"
"Waaaah," the little one yawned and went to sleep. Both parents licked him once again, made sure he is warm in their coats and looked at each other.
"Maybe his hearing isn't so bad after all," Flashie though out loud. "What if he can't hear just a little? His petals aren't completely gone."
"We'll see. Get some sleep now, I'll keep watch."
"I'll let you sleep in the morning..."
"As always, firefly. Good night."
"Good night, butterfly."

OH GOD IT'S BABY
That's so sweet! Congrats to those two ^^
Noctur being "deaf" is an interesting choice, I'm sure it can make for some pretty amazing story lines! I hope he grows up well ^^
I love the Background btw! The little bushes and trees look pretty nice, and the color of the sky is just beautiful! The shadows from the trees also look well done :3
