Description
I have lost count of how many times I have given up on this project and then came back to it with a new idea and a new approach. The best ideas usually occur early in the morning while lying in bed waiting for the sun to come up. This video shows my best results so far. In case it is not clear what I am trying to do, the goal is to write a script for blender that will map motion capture data onto a Lionhead Movies Game armature.
For this latest approach, I decided to try something analogous to the way I solved the problem of importing TM animation files. The key is to pose the TM armature over the MOCAP armature in frame 1 so the bones and the bone rotation axes are all lined up. Once this is done, apply the rotation of the bone from the MOCAP data to the corresponding bone of the TM armature. This keeps the bones aligned as the armature moves. The TM armature must first be scaled to the size of the MOCAP armature. Even after all this, the bones do not match perfectly, but it appears that they are close enough to give good results, when all is said and done.
