Description If you keep up with my deviations, you might've seen my sketch of this multi-star system earlier this year. But sketches barely scratch the surface of its beauty, so here's a look at Mizar and Alcor through an 8-inch Dobsonian.

Mizar and Alcor sit in the handle of the Big Dipper. With sharp eyes and steady skies, you can actually resolve both stars with the naked eye. Throw in a telescope and you'll discover Mizar is composed of two stars, Mizar A and Mizar B. All three of these stars are actually binaries themselves, meaning this is a sextuple star system!

Below and between them lies the unrelated star Sidus Ludoviciana, which was once mistaken for a planet.

My Equipment:

-Apertura AD8
-Celestron 15mm Omni Series Ploessl Eyepiece
-Celestron Smartphone Adapter
-iPhone SE (2nd Gen)
