Description shutdown your drawing skills and be in copy mode! when you guys get the process to work for you, you'd realize that it's easier than drawing from scratch.

sketch was done in 10-15 minutes and I took a bit longer in coloring

My wife has already contracted me to do 2 drawings of my in-laws.... hehe....

have fun folks!

woops... wrong reply... should be for syeri's message

I won't use this on my comics work!!! I am not a fan of photoreferenced images. I'd rather draw Kevin Nowlan, Jim Lee and Travis faces.

But I'd sure like to get a Starwars cover without lightboxing!

I meant:

I'm not a fan of (exactly) photoreferenced comics. (not images per se).

I love Alex Ross stuff cause he makes the drawings his own and every drawing looks like an Alex Ross drawing despite being referenced.

Hey, Leinil

You don't photo reference in your comics, not so much for the faces or to draw excatly whats in the photo but for the body language or position?

unfortunately I don't but that would certainly help for realism. my poses are kinda stiff and cartoony but I like it that way

It's like in 3d animation.... a lot of animators still prefer keyframe animation vs motion capture. hehe.

True about the Mo-Cap key framing rocks, but you capture the body so well in your foreshortening and angles, I am truly suprised that you don't use photo reference. It's all coming out of your head, wow! Do most comic book artist work that way? I need photoreference just to make a damm ear. Yeah I checked out your New Avengers #27. Beautiful.

Who needs photo reference? Photographic memory is how I do it, and how I cheated in exams.
I rarely go for photographic references either, it is more fulfilling to complete the process fully by yourself.

I reference only for practise.

well if you're drawing about people who can fly and shoot lazer beams out of their eyes its def o.k. to be cartoony. i think real human poses are boring alot of the time and lack expression. in my opinion its about so much more than having a realistic pose

And one more comment, you say your poses are stiff and cartoony. The splash page with all the New New Avengers together, somewhere in the middle. Looks neither stiff nor cartoony, I want a poster of that, and if, cuz I have no idea you could still be in the phillipines, but if you are at the wondercon here in S.F. I'll bring it and try to get you to sign it.
