A/N: For those who have not watched Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso aka Your Lie in April, and are planning to watch it, don't read this fic unless you don't mind spoilers. This is my attempt at making a fluffy fic for all of you to enjoy... So those that do wanna read it, please do so and I hope you enjoy it!

"I... really didn't think... it would be this sad...." The quiet sobs resonated within the room. The tears streamed down your face and you wiped them with your sleeves. Lying back down on your futon, you let out a long sigh, hoping to get rid of your sadness. "Damn it! Why did it have to be this way?!" Whispering to yourself, you dimmed the bright screen of your laptop and eventually decided to close it. "Why did I even start to watch it? Damn it... Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso..."

Wiping the last tears from your weary eyes, you stayed still on top of your futon. It was already 2 in the morning, and you didn't want to wake up anyone. Hopefully my sobbing wasn't that loud... Suddenly you heard a small knock on the door, and a tired looking Kiku entered the room. "ごめんなさい、(name)-san、but... I heard you crying so I thought there was something wrong..."

Damn. I thought I was quiet. Sitting up and leaning against the wall, you say: "I'm so sorry Kiku, I didn't think I'd wake you up. Please go back to sleep, I'll be fine." But Kiku didn't obey you and sat down next to you on your futon anyway. Despite the fact that Kiku was extremely groggy, you knew what he thought of personal space. It was rather unlike him to do this here.

"(name)-san, you're my guest tonight. I don't want to neglect you when you're feeling down. Even if this is at 2 in the morning."

You turned your tear-stained face towards Kiku, feeling as if you want to cry again. "Kiku, I just watched Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso... and...and-" Kiku smiled wearily. "(name)-san, watching anime at 2 in the morning is bad for your health." You went back to sobbing. "But it's not gonna change anything right now! Kousei's mom died, he couldn't play the piano, and now Kaori's sick!"

Kiku went quiet for a little bit, and then slowly lowers his hand onto your head, gently caressing your head. "(name)-san, I know it's a sad anime. Last time you watched AnoHana, the same thing happened, didn't it?" You shook your head. "No! It didn't! It wasn't this sad!" But even when you buried your face into your hands, the gentle warm hand that caressed your head never left it. "(name)-san, please cheer up. I'll even make you your favorite (favorite food) tomorrow morning." Kiku really knows what to do to cheer me up...

"I love your cooking, Kiku. Anything you make is great, not just (favorite food). Since you're already comforting me at 2 in the morning anyway, you should get to choose." Kiku bowed his head, and replied, "Then I'll choose something you'll enjoy as well."
Finally cheering up, you smiled at Kiku. "Kiku, you're always there when I need you. Thank you."

Kiku nodded and left the room after giving you one last smile. Lying back down onto the futon, you cover yourself with the blankets, slowing nodding off after having spent energy crying. As you slowly drifted away, you thought: Whoever gets Kiku as a boyfriend is so damn lucky...

*Next Morning*

As you opened your eyes, you slowly sat up on your futon. Still feeling a little groggy, you wiped your eyes with your hands. Getting out of your futon, you looked around, adjusted your t-shirt and shorts, and left the guest bedroom. As you exited, a delicious smell wafted through the air from the kitchen, making your mouth water. Kiku's awake, huh... Slowly dragging yourself to the kitchen, you saw Kiku taste-testing the soup he was making, and smiled upon its completion.

Hearing your footsteps, Kiku turned around, saying, "おはようございます (good morning), (name)-san." Mumbling a response, you say,"Oh, good morning, Kiku." Kiku turned off the gas, and used a ladle to pour the soup into the small bowls he had prepared. "I've just finished making breakfast. Please tell me how much rice you want." Seeing how Kiku has already made you breakfast, you say, "Kiku, I'll just get myself some. Did you already get yours?" Kiku shook his head, and was about to stop you from serving him, but you interrupted him first.

"Kiku, don't worry. You're my best friend, not just a host to an important guest. And you just made me breakfast too! Now tell me, how much do you want?" Kiku gave up trying to persuade you, but gave you a heart-warming smile and said, "That's why I really like you, (name)-san."

You froze in place, your hand still holding onto the spoon full of rice. Wait, did Kiku just say? Realizing what he had just said, Kiku turned beet red, waving his hands frantically, trying to deny a misunderstanding. "あの...あの...(ano...ano/um...umm...) (name)-san, 私...(Watashi/I...)... I... didn't mean it that way! I meant to say "That's why I really like your personality"! Since you're such a good friend to me."

After a long awkward silence, you quietly say, "Oh. Sorry Kiku. I spaced out. How much do you want again?" Kiku, still red in the face, mumbled, "Two spoons, please". After getting your portion, sat down across from Kiku, with his and yours favorites foods on the table. He wasn't joking when he said he'd make your favorites.

You glanced at Kiku slightly, contemplating what had gone through his head. Did he say that because those words were in his head? Was it just an unplanned confession? Slowly nibbling on a piece of salmon that Kiku had cooked to perfection, you wondered how to approach him. Quickly finishing your portion of the food, you stole a glance at him. Seeing that Kiku remained silent, his face still red, his chopsticks on his bowl of rice, which was still untouched. I can almost see that he's dying of embarrassment inside... I guess I should say something.

"Kiku?" Still silent. "Kiku, 聞こえますか?(Kikoemasuka?/Can you hear me?)" Hearing no reply, you reached out to touch him. But before you reached his shoulder, Kiku's hand swats yours away. Seeing how you were surprised, Kiku gasped. "(name)-san, I'm so sorry! I didn't mean to..." You shook your head. "No, I know that you aren't comfortable with people getting near you sometimes. I should be the one to apologize." When Kiku didn't reply, you continued, "I just thought that you should start eating. It's going to be cold soon, you know?"

"Actually, I don't want to eat anymore, (name)-san. If you want to finish my portion as well, please go ahead. I have to excuse myself for now." Kiku quickly stood up and left the kitchen, leaving you staring down at the leftover food.

Kiku....

--- Kiku POV ----

What have I done?! She looks like she's about to cry when I hit her hand and I left her alone in the kitchen and.... and .... Such disgraceful acts! I've never lost my composure this much before, why is it happening?

But then, I do know why.
I never thought that I would've just confessed to her like that. She doesn't like me, no, she won't turn around to look at such a pitiful man like me. (name) isn't going to be mine. She might even be going out with Arthur-san, or even Alfred-san.

Now that I'm back in my bedroom, leaning against this wall, I never thought it would be this lonely....

--- Normal POV -----

I really should apologize... I must've hurt Kiku very badly... You put down your chopsticks, staring down into your bowl, still half full with rice. After all that he's done for me, how could I be so blind? You walked back to the stove, and boiled some water. Hearing the whistle of the kettle, you took it off the stove, and prepared green tea. Putting the cups and some snacks on a tray, you walked to Kiku's room, knocking on his door.

"Kiku, please open the door for me. I'm worried about you." There was still no reply. "Kiku...please...at least hear what I have to say." Still not hearing an answer, you set the tea down on the floor, and sat down, leaning your body against the wall. "I'm sorry if I embarrassed you... I never knew that you... thought of me in that way. I'm...sorry. I don't know what to say to make you feel better, but I guess...I'll leave. I'll be in the guest bedroom if you want to see me."

You stood back up and walked towards your room, leaving the tea in front of Kiku's door. You lay on the futon after the closing the door, and closed your eyes. I'm sorry...Kiku...I really didn't mean it...

Kiku remained silent on the other side of the wall as he heard your footsteps walking away from his room.

__________

---- Kiku POV ----

It's already very late... I wonder where (name)-san is. I know that she said that she would be in her room. I'm rather worried... I should go to check if she's feeling alright...

I knocked on the door of the guest bedroom, and since there was no reply, I slowly opened the door to her room. Inside, it was pitched black, just like the night before, when (name) was curled up on her futon, upset about the anime's development.

I closed the door behind me, and sat down on the floor. "(name)-san?" I whispered, hoping that she would respond to me. But I faced silence. I know that she is sitting down with her back against the wall, but I hear nothing, just her and my slow breathing.

"(name)-san...I'm sorry if I made you upset. Please, just forget about what I just said." There was a slight movement, but within the dark room, when there was no moonlight shining through the windows, I couldn't see her.

But slowly, as the clouds went away, and the moonlight was shining down from that window above her small body, I could see tears in her eyes, with her hands over her ears.

--- Normal POV ----

I wanted to say, 'Kiku, it's my fault... can we go back to being friends? But the more I think about it, the more I know that it's impossible... You knew that you've been deluding yourself. I've always liked Kiku... but I didn't just didn't know what to do then. He's always been there for me and with me when I was sad.

You know that he's saying sorry to you now in that dark room, but you just didn't want him to say that he's going to forget you. It was extremely hard for you to say sorry now. Even if it wasn't explicit, you knew that your shocked expression must've hurt him.

Suddenly, you feel a pair of warm arms around you. It was extremely comforting and unexpected. Kiku was never a man to disrespect a woman's personal space, but with him, you felt protected. "I'm sorry I couldn't stop myself from hugging you, (name)-san. I know that I might not be the guy you like, but I can't stand seeing you sad." Hearing the heartbroken words from the awkward, yet beautiful guy you've been in love with for a long time made you return his hug.

--- Kiku POV ---

I was surprised that she hugged me back. But I decided against leaving her and continued to keep her in my arms. Only if this moment of comfort could last forever.

No...She's doing this out of sympathy. She has no real feelings towards me. I must throw away any hope I have left. It's simply not safe.

--- Normal POV ---

Although you remained silent in his warmth, you knew that Kiku believed that you liked Alfred or Arthur over him. And you knew that he would push you away if you didn't say anything. After a long debate inside your mind, you decided to speak up.

"Kiku, I actually have something to confess..." Kiku, startled, trembled a bit but kept his arms around you anyway. "I don't like Alfred or Arthur like that.... I don't have a crush on them. Though I have to say...." I never thought Kiku would have to summon the same amount of courage to admit that he actually liked me... Even if it was after a slip of the tongue... Kiku said nothing, awaiting your answer. "The truth is... I like you too... ..."

Even though you whispered your confession, Kiku could hear it as it passed into his ears; the very words that he'd been hoping for so long. It was just simply given to him without expectation. It was just there... ringing in his ears, so much so that he was almost convinced that it was a dream.

As Kiku's body stiffened from the shock, you nudged him gently. "Kiku?" It was then that Kiku realized that he was part of reality. Your face was leaning against his chest, your arms hugging him, your hot tears soaking his yukata.

Kiku still remained silent and touched the right side of your face. He used his sleeve to wipe away your tears, and as he did it, he stammered, "(n-name)-san..." You nodded, looking up at him. "Kiku, please believe me. I-"

Kiku was visibly red up to his ears, and even when he tried to avoid your gaze by covering his face with both hands, you could tell how embarrassed he was. It made you smile. "I'm glad that you've always been the same, Kiku." And with those words, you took one of his hands and held it.

Kiku's first response was to stroke your head with the other hand. "(name-san)...Wa-I...I'm glad you...chose me." His stammering revealed his nervousness, and you squeezed his hand slightly, reminding him that it was alright.

"If you don't mind, can we stay together for tonight? I don't really want to sleep alone..." Kiku nodded, despite still being a little red in the face. He lifted the warm blanket, and laid down with you, his arms wrapping around you from the back. You turned around to face him, and wrapped your arms around him too.

And as you slowly close your eyes, his warm presence and slow breathing lulled you to sleep, with one thought shared in both minds.

"I love you."
