Wonderful art! Though whenever I play the suicide mission in ME2, Mordin never seems to survive, and with Paddok it's just not the same... *sigh*

I'd call this spoilers, but it is pretty old. During the Suicide Mission, you're given a chance to have some survivors of the Collector attacks, escorted back to the Normandy by a crew member. You MUST send Mordin back at this point, or he never survives the fight. it's the only way for a 100% survival rate by all crew members. Also, you must do his loyalty mission, and succeed. Anyone who's loyalty you haven't earned, gets a 50/50 chance of coming back at best.

Yeah, BlazeInferno's right.  I set Tali back (to help Joker with repairs) and left Mordin with the main team.  Everybody got out.

BlazeInferno In reply to Khasym [2016-11-18 10:46:18 +0000 UTC]

Inaccurate.  Mordin can survive holding the line - however, it does require you to put some work in before hitting up the Omega 4 Relay.  Do everyone's loyalty missions (if you leave Tali's until after recruiting Legion, you can do both of theirs before the Collectors attack Normandy AND bring Legion to Tali's mission, which opens some interesting dialogue if your Paragon/Renegade score is high enough to get him aboard), get all the Normandy Upgrades, and don't screw up in your specialist choices.  Finally, don't take Grunt, Zaeed or Garrus into the final fight, as they contribute the most toward the squad's survival.  If you have all your squadmates still alive and loyal, at long as you leave behind at least two of those three mentioned, everyone will survive.

Every character is assigned a number between 0 and 3.  That number is increased by 1 if they're loyal.  Jack, Mordin, Kasumi and Tali are 0 (1 loyal), Thane, Legion, Samara/Morinth, Jacob, and Miranda are 1 (2 loyal), Zaeed, Grunt, and Garrus are 3 (4 loyal).  If the average score of all squadmates holding the line is 2 or better, everyone survives.  Keeping in mind that three squadmates will be absent from Holding the Line assuming you send someone to escort the crew, if everyone is still alive and loyal, the ONLY way to get someone killed at that point is for two or more of the three heavy hitters to be with you or the crew.

Probably the most powerful moment in the game.

In the beginning he was convinced the genophage was necessary. Then he saw what it did and he started to realize what hed done. And then he made it right again.

His character development was by far the most emotional story in the game

After my first play through I desperately looked all over the internet and forums for someone who found a way to save him. Sadly, there wasnt a way.

Also this is amazing! His expression fits the scene perfectly.

Yes, you can save him, and he works on the Crucible.  However, for that to happen you have to stick the Krogan with the worst options: Eve dies (didn't save Maelon's research) and Urdon Wrex was killed on Virmire.  In that event, Mordin can be persuaded that the Krogan aren't ready for a cure.  If you save the Rachni (again), you get a different ending sequence as well.

I do not recommend that course.  Not only because it is morally wrong as an action.  Not only because it is cruel and destructive to an entire race.  Not only because it is a foolish risk of military forces when galactic civilization is on the line.  But also because it wrongs Mordin too.  He dies a hero, doing a great deed.  If he lives, he lives shamed. He was an old Salarian.  How much better go to out quickly, doing something truly good, than to live on a few more years in hiding and shame.

No.  Even if it were ONLY for Mordin's sake, I'd never take that course.

This is what I was reminded of when Mordin died. Both are great scenes of sacrifice in SciFi.

*sniff sniff*  I won't cry again . . . I WON'T!   Damn it! *cries*  This is emotionally painful to look at, and I'm reminded of how I burst into tears, embarrassing loud ones that make your face look ugly, when I played this for the first time.  Oh . . . man . . .  my heart is broken, forever.

Yet, wonderful job, and the emotion you convey in this piece is astonishing.  It's so rare to find such emotional artwork on DevArt, when it isn't two lovers, but two friends instead.  This is fantastic, and definitely a treasured find for my favorites collection!
