Description
"I'm warning you, Pique: I may not be able to see, and Ben may not be able to speak. But I assure you: if you try to hurt Venture again, we can hurt you just as much..."---
Finally! It's about time I draw something for you, Lizzy
I decided to draw something to include the main horses that have played a role in Venture's life, in a good and in a bad way.
All OCs portrayed belong to ElectraDust , and for those of you who are not familiar with their history:
- the aqua pony on the left is called Pique and in the past he has hurt Venture (another OC that is not included in the picture) to the point that she's still dealing with the emotional fallout. She is showing signs of getting better, though.
- the white pony on the right is called Ben. He was Venture's best friend from her childhood, but lost track of her for years, until only recently he found her again and is helping her recover from the pain she's suffered in her life. Ben has also suffered negative experiences, which left him with selective mutism from the trauma, but can use writing to express himself.
- the aqua pony behind Ben is called Echo. He is Venture and Pique's son and he has also had a troublesome past, one of the traumas he experienced being becoming completely blind.
I was inspired to draw this (apart from Lizzy's artworks and stories) by the beautiful song "Face Down" by The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus (link www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZOcXnJ… )
However I'd like to stress that neither the situation depicted here above, nor the lyrics of the song are to be considered 100% accurate to the actual personality and story of these ponies. Consider this just as my interpretation, and if you'd like to learn more about how they actually are, I strongly recommend you to go check out the art and stories featuring them made by ElectraDust ! She's a great artist and writer, as well as a great friend ^^
With that being said, I hope you like this little gift, Lizzy!
Hopefully this can be the first of a series of drawings for my closest friends here on the site
Oh, and fun fact: I did the border like this to resemble a burnt picture! I think it could have come out better, but as a first try it's not too bad.

Thank you so much Nogo! And don't worry, I perfectly understand ^w^ I am also a bit busy with work from school, so it's perfectly fine
I wish you the best of luck for your work and I hope you can draw again soon, because your artworks are amazing :3

(sorry for the late comment, must have accidentally deleted the notification)
Damn, this looks amazing! When I first saw this, I swear I thought this was lineless. I can't even believe that somebody can get so good in drawing with a mouse! The thin and narrow lines are the best lines actually, they make the drawing look clean, and I have so much appreciation for the fact that you've managed to outline this with just a mouse. Like, my hands are always shaky.
They all look so amazing, oh lord! Ben has the most adorable expression ever, and I really like the way Pique's expression turned out - he looks so offended and grumpy xD
It's so nice of you to having drawn (am I saying this grammatically correctly?) Lizzy's favorite characters! Like, from what Lizzy has been posting recently, I can judge that she's crazy about them xD
Great job, tovarisch!

(Oh, it's absolutely fine Marie! I appreciate all comments I receive, no matter when I receive them, so thank you for taking time to comment
Plus, I still owe you a comment on a beautiful artwork you have drawn for me! I haven't forgotten, I'm just trying to find time to comment properly. Sorry about the long wait, though
It's a busy period for me, lots of exams)
I'm so glad you think so! I used a small trick to make it look kinda lineless: instead of making the outline black, I made it of each pony's colors This way, it's much less visible!
As for the lines, I also have very shaky hands, so I can relate
However, Medibang has a fantastic tool called "Curve tool" that allows you to draw curve lines very easily! You just have to select the points through which the line will pass, and voilà!
Thank you so much! I'm glad you like them! I am a big fan of Ben, Echo and Pique myself, so I wanted to give them my own personal tribute

Exams are very important, so don't worry. It's fine, I also have hella lot of work to get to. Studying, studying and studying.
Oh I see! I used to do so myself not a while ago - it's such a neat technique! But I realized that I want my lined artwork to remain lined. Also, just a tip - when lining with black, don't use black. Use the darker versions of your character's colors. That make lifework so much more alive.
That's such a useful tool actually! I have no idea how I lived before I've discovered it. It's a great thing your program has this function as well ^^
You're welcome!

Oh, don't worry dear, there is still hope! *pats Steven's back*
You see, what Ben and Echo are doing is, they are issuing a final warning. >.>
Of course, if Pique (the one on the left) won't listen, then there may indeed be a fight... but let's hope it doesn't come to that

I think you need to do one of those "Art summary" journal things or something
There is a lot of progress and style evolution going on that you could make a little bit of retrospect of.
It is evolving quickly aswell, with digital drawings looking great for the short amount of time that you have been making them (as far as I know, obviously). This drawing is a prime example of how those things that you are very good at comes together in a more technically complicated drawing. I notice emotions and subtle differences in these facial expressions that you seem to hit a 'home run' with
Unlike me, who never really practiced such things (because I did other stuff like I have explained ) you evolved a way of making it look like there are a lot of 'life' to your ponies in terms of emotions. Dynamics if you will. Combined with this type of drawing is looking to be very promising
Impressive!

Thank you so much for the compliments and the words of encouragement! Emotions and different facial expressions are, alongside more dynamic poses, among the things I've been practicing the most lately (to avoid the "smiling pony standing still" syndrome my older drawings always suffered from XD), so it means the world to me that you noticed some improvement in that!
Thanks again! And you know what, I'm going to make one of those "Art Summary" thingies! Already two people have suggested I do that, and I've seen many friends and fellow artists publishing their versions of it, so now I'm really curious about how my summary would look like ^^

I'm afraid he doesn't :\ But never say never! There's always time for repentance and to change one's life: I like to think there's still hope for him!
...and I'm pretty sure Echo and Ben think the same thing, otherwise those spells would have been cast already

Oh, no. You got the horses pretty spot on, my friend. *Claps*
The only thing I would say, is the quote is grammatically incorrect, and it is Echo speaking, so rather:
“We can hurt you just as badly”
“We can hurt you just as much”
Or “We can hurt you just as easily”
Other than that they’re perfect.
But yes indeed, Pique, they can hurt. Ben’s got glasses, and you’ve learned he ain’t afraid to use them.
(That song is near perfect though)
Oh I love it, it’s Echo, Ben, and Pique. It’s three of my most favorite ponies, of course I like it. Thank you for making it.
(I still can’t get the image out of my mind that Pique looks like an adorable grumpy toddler. )

I'm truly happy to hear I got them right! I am a fan of all of your characters (even the "bad" and "evil" ones
I'm not a fan of their actions, maybe, but I am a fan of the characters they are: each of them is well-thought-out and consistent throughout your stories ^^). But I am fan of these three horses in particular, and of the dynamics and relationships between them and Venture as well, so I thought I giving them my very own piece of fanart :3
And yeah, I had doubts on the quote myself XD I had to rely on Context Reverso, but it gave me more than one solution, so it's likely that what I've picked is not the most common or natural one. Thanks for letting me know! I'll fix that ^^
You are very welcome Lizzy! I'm so glad you like this
(Pique looking a grumpy toddler is a pretty accurate simile XD but I agree with you he would be an adorable grumpy toddler X3)

Agreed. Their actions (for any number of my horses XD) can be questioned, but the characters are very interesting. And I’m the one writing! (It’s good when the author is interested in their characters too.)
Oh no, it’s a natural way to say it, just not grammatically correct.
Pique was a happy toddler, until Kandy was born. Then he became a grumpy old man.

It actually is a really good thing! It means you are satisfied with how they came out, and at the same time eager to explore their personality more. Personally, when I create a character I feel like I just give them their main traits. And after that they kind of become alive! Like, you don't need to invent anything else: just put them into a certain situation, and it will be the character itself to tell you the natural reaction they will have to that situation, based on the traits you gave them. I don't know if it works the same for you, but I find that so cool!
Haha, aww Dang it, Kandy! XD

Hence the beauty of role playing, you really get a feel of not just the characters, but how to make them. (I love roleplaying too much)

Very well done! Good job with the posing--everyone's expressions are easily read and you can tell what's going on without needing words. Also, good job having Echo not look directly at the other pony--it helps complete the effect of making him look blind^^
