Our family’s new hound/husky/mutt mix, Jasmine. She has a more interesting interaction of genes than our last dog. After my studies, I can make a guess at what she carries using the loci I am more sure of Theoretical Dog GeneticsWhen I was a kid I can remember being confused by the logic of dog genetics presented in cartoons. When two different looking dogs had puppies, the boy puppies looked like the dad and the girl puppies looked like the mom. I can only guess that this lack of originality was an attempt to cash in on the new character's resemblance to an older character that had already won people over, but where's the fun in that? Being the animal nerd that I am, I resolved to give myself a way to design a realistic yet varied guide to prevent such blandness. This is meant to accompany the visual guides I have already created, as a way to give a character a theo

K Locus: kyky. Expressing agouti.
B Locus: B_. Non-chocolate, probably not carrying chocolate.
D Locus: D_. Non-blue, probably not carrying blue.
E Locus: EM_. Mask, probably carrying E (allows black hairs).
Merle Locus: mm. Non-merle.
Agouti Locus: ay_. Sable, could be carrying sable, agouti, or tan points, but probably not recessive black.
White Spotting Locus: sisp. Pattern resembles Irish white. Irregular and asymmetrical white markings could result from interaction between Irish and piebald genes.
Blue Eyes Locus: BE_. Blue eyes not resulting from merle or white spotting. There may be several loci that cause blue eyes, but I theorize that at least one is dominant because of how many Siberian Husky mixes I see with blue eyes.
Hair Length Locus: LS_. Short hair is dominant, though I don’t know how many total genes are involved.
Non-Shedding Locus: N_. Normal coat, probably not carrying non-shedding.
Wirehaired Locus: ww. Non-wirehaired.
Curly Haired Locus: CU_. Normal coat, probably not carrying curly coat.
Ear Shape Locus: OdOd. Drop ears.
Tail Shape Locus: Va_. Sickle tail. Not quite sure about the genes involved in tails, but the way she carries it resembles some huskies.
