I'm just not sure when they should learn of the motive for their abduction. If they think they were captured as superheroes, they'll be more vulnerable to the brainwashing. On the other hand, knowing that were abducted like ordinary kids would have a major impact on their egos.

I think that the ego hit ought to be happening anyway.  They GET captured is pretty bad itself, and Captivator is capitalizing on their being kids at every opportunity.  And that will also psychologically weaken the resolve of Phoenix Force to resist.

But they probably shouldn't know that Jessica is their jailor.  A friendly face being one of the most potent elements of brainwashing.  On the other hand, a friendly face need not be INNOCENT, as the face of the brainwashing might be playing the role of 'Good Cop' and 'I'm trying to help you', but is clearly one of 'them', and is trying to get the captives to betray themselves.

The kids realize early on that Jessica is the mastermind?  Or are you thinking that either she tells them or Captivator does?
