Description
Character Study: CinderellaFrom: Walt Disney’s Cinderella (1950)
Original Character Designers:
Eric Larson
Marc Davis
Project Duration: 6 hrs
Cinderella was develop during the entrance of the New Wave of Disney animators, as well as Walt Disney’s stepping back from direct development of animation. Though that didn’t stop him from inserting his will upon Cinderella’s three writers Clyde Geronimi, Hamilton Luske, and Wilfred Jackson. Lead animators on Cinderella herself, Eric Larson, and Marc Davis both had differences of opinions on how to take Cinderella. Larson was looking for a more Snow White like character, while Davis was hoping for a far more complex character. There were many different character and story designs that were altered by Walt Disney himself.
Cinderella story would never see any changes until the video game series made in Kingdom Hearts. The joint Disney/ Square Enix creature that brought back many parts of the Cinderella story taken out from the story. Her dress has seen many changes over the year between the two sequels and multiple cameos, the dress has gone from blue to silver and mush as Aroura’s dress has gone from blue to pink. In current manifestations the dress has fallen onto a detailed silver to silvery blue color, with one of the most pain in the ass prints one could put on such a dress…
The transformation sequence was described by Walt Disney as the pinnacle of animation technology and skill at the time. To the day he died, it was one of his favorite animated scene ever created noting its pure perfection. So I was hesitant on taking on something Walt Disney himself found to be perfection. Of course I would never in a million years have the ability of any of the 9 Old Men, I have something called Photoshop, and the ability to create customize brushes and special effects that Walt Disney himself could only dream of. I couldn’t even imagine attempting to draw this using traditional medium, I am strictly a digital artist. Still this was awesome to draw, and I enjoyed adding some elements (the butterflies) of the 2015 Cinderella live action movie.
