Brave was Pixar’s first animations that had a director removed from a production because of creative differences. Disney and DreamWorks Animation veteran animator Brenda Chapman joined Pixar in 2003. While working on Cars as an animator she conceived the project called ‘The Bear and the Bow.’ Lasseter loved the idea so much he took her out of Cars and made her Project Lead for the development of the story. When the project was greenlighted she was named Pixar’s first female Director. In 2010 however she was removed from the project ‘following creative disagreements’ and replaced by Mark Andrews.
