Description One man has brains, the other is without brains. Not hard to guess which is which. Jam packed with clues about my feelings on the matter. I see TV commercials, I get pissed off, I make pictures like this.

I've held back on commenting on this and left it in "inbox" till i got through some messages: it's funny, i think this a visualitation of our mutual "grumpy old man" syndrome

I totally share this feeling and go out of my way to avoid commercials whenever i can. I usually only watch the BBC as it has none and just watch movies and cartoon off my pc. I can't stand commercial networks anymore...

I really like this pic though in surprised the brainless one is reading, surely someone that far gone doesn't read?
Not unless it's some celebitry-gossip-trash

Hehe it's the most sensible syndrome there is.
The hole headed one is actually tearing the page
I need TV to be background noise for me, but it seems there are more commercial breaks than ever these days. They even run those tiny ads in the corner of the screen during the program sometimes.

Ah damn i can't believe i didn't notice the tearing - makes perfect sense now!

Yeah i also need sometinhg chattering away in the background - i guess you don't have that many non-commercial stations in the US? Maybe BBC World or HBO?

I also often listen to silly podcasts like the Ricky Gervais show.

Wow tiny ads in the corner? We don't have those yet but it's only matter of time till we do... Are the ads louder than the programs on US tv too? When they started doin' that over here it was the final straw for me!

leothefox In reply to KerroPerro [2010-01-05 18:31:04 +0000 UTC]

The commercial free broadcasting is all on the more expensive extended cable TV. HBO, etc is there.
Our commercials have been louder than the shows for ages now, probably since the mid 90s. The ads in the corner usually never get above a small portion. These are usually just to promote upcoming shows or "marathons" that network is running. Although these ads are animated so it does distract from the show you are trying to watch.

Oh yeah we have those as well, i think there even worse over here: there was one that suddenly covered the entire screen in sunglasses that would then fly away as promo from some cheesy celebitry-vehicle, i saw that one whilst trying to watch a movie - i think i started yelling. And there was another where the program would get squeezed to reveal the host of "Holland's got Talent" or some such bollocks who proceeded to talk through the program/movie. I luckily didn't see that one but i heard about it from a friend who ranted for at least ten minutes over it!

leothefox In reply to KerroPerro [2010-01-06 00:26:04 +0000 UTC]

That's awful! I hope it never gets that bad here. Here they only squeeze the program if it's the end titles or if they screwed up the time slot and have to start the next show at once.

I don't know! Christmas and New Year's seems like one big blur. Tara & Dan are packing to go back to Santa Monica right now. Highs in the 70's there, and freezing cold here! I hate them! Okay, i don't hate them, but i AM jealous! But now that they are leaving i am reverting to normal routine time again. Less beer and healthier food!

leothefox In reply to Daniel-Storm [2010-01-05 02:41:43 +0000 UTC]

Hehe I'm jealous too. We've got that awful winter syndrome here which involves it only being kind of cold outside (40s-50s) but businesses acting like that's an ice storm and blasting the heat indoors. This means that if I dress for the weather I'll be swimming in my own sweat the moment I go inside any building that isn't my house.

Daniel-Storm In reply to leothefox [2010-01-05 04:09:51 +0000 UTC]

Yes...and the reverse is true here in the summer. My wife has to carry a sweater with her all through the heat of St. Louis because restaurants have their thermostats turned so low.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

leothefox In reply to Daniel-Storm [2010-01-05 04:22:26 +0000 UTC]

It's similar in summer in southern CA.

Daniel-Storm In reply to leothefox [2010-01-05 04:36:53 +0000 UTC]

Sometimes it bothers me. But then i think back to when i was a kid and thousands of people dying every summer of heat waves. My Grandpa Storm died in a heat wave. So...i dunn'o. Guess there is no perfect world. But maybe if i lived in San Diego...

San Diego is pretty nice. It has some of the worst traffic I've ever seen though.
