Ahahaha! Funny, so do I--but I'd go with Flip in this case, though.

Yessss! ...He was just as much the stuffy sourpuss when he was a kid as he is when he's an adult... lol, thank you!

yes, they're both very good looking, strapping young men but that's probably the only thing that's different, eh?

Oh my gosh!! This is so cool! I loved this movie when I was little! You draw these characters so well. That guy in the middle who is looking at Flip reminds me of the Professor.

lol, thank you so much! I totally loved/love this movie, too! And, yes, it is supposed to be Professor Genius, only younger. (...The same reason for why Flip looks so funny...
)
The designs are based loosely on the animation of the movie, but a majority of the characters are based mainly on the comic, like Imp (the little boy in the box.) Have you read the original comic by Winsor McCay? If you haven't, you should...Judging by your icon (which is uber-neat, btw), I bet you'd love it!
Thanks again, darkcharna!

I've read a few. One was where Nemo and Flip went into outer space and they learned how to "swim" without gravity. It was a little hard to read, but I thought it was so awesome. The Imp was in that comic and he was a little strange, but interesting. I also noticed that you drew that other guy who resembles Flip. Is that his father, the Sun? I just recently watched the movie after like, God knows how many years, and that just sent my curiosity into ablaze. Flip was always my absolute favorite. Do you have a backstory to your drawings? If you do, I would really like to hear it. Your drawings seem to just tell a story itself.
Thanks for the compliment in my icon!

I think I've read that one...But, yeah, the comics are so beautiful and inspiring, aren't they?--and, yes, they can totally be hard to read sometimes; the dialogue is "hastily jammed into tiny word balloons that can scarcely contain it!" Uber frustrating, but I'm ususally concentrating on the pictures, so...lol!

ARGH, curses...didn't mean for that to happen.
Anyway, there are so many interesting characters in the comic! Even though I grew up with and completely love the movie (which is funny because I don't even own it!), I'm kind of bothered that they didn't have some characters, like The Imp (a bit too rascist/stereotypical) or the Sun or etc.. But I still adore it...
As such, my favorite character has always been Flip, too! And he has a (slightly) richer background in the original comic. E.g., his father is The Sun, his uncle(?) (aunt, in my story) is The Dawn...and a lot more.
It's funny how it all got started...(It'll be a year on the 27th of this month, actually! ) ...I had been sitting in the living room, with my sketchpad, I think watching something w/ a rather young Mickey Rooney (the voice of Flip)... And for some reason, I tried imagining what Flip was like when he was younger and started drawing...(lol, the first sketches are so odd-looking
...I didn't have any reference and hadn't seen the movie for quite a while.)
And this story kind of evolved, too...But it's not even reached the final stages or anything; there are all kinds of holes and stuff, but I have these main scenes in my head. It's all rather jumbled up, really. (Perhaps you could offer some ideas or help patch things up!
)
Basically, Flip is the son of The Sun, and a prince of sorts; but he doesn't really act accordingly; a bit of a bully and ne'er-do-well, usually riding around his giant crow, Flap (omg, I have a soft spot for crows and loved her in the movie ) and terrorizing people with his cousin and friend; but he's noble and sweet at heart. Anyway, by chance he meets Dinah, the princess of Slumberland who is King/Prince Morpheus' sister (who I still need to draw), which explains why her appearance is similar to Camille's. And, wouldn't you know it, they fall in love. For both of them, it's extremely new (Dinah's never been with a boy, and Flip's never really felt anything other than lust), but their relationship is something of a secret tryst...(lol) A type of opposition occurs in the form of a young Professor Genius, which alludes to the future tension and teasing portrayed between them in the comics/movie.
Once all is through, the whole affair is kind of kept under wraps and not really spoken about to Camille or Nemo or etc. That is one detail I'm rather certain about; the whole story basically begins with Camille and Nemo (about a year or so after the Nightmare incident) asking Professor Genius or Flip asking about Flip's past and why he's acting so odd/bitter(?) to the news that Camille's Aunt Dinah is coming. ...Or Flip sees Camille in such a way that he's reminded of Dinah...I do know that he and P.G. get into a fight...Argh.
Note: Also, when Flip was younger, he was something of a mama's-boy; and when he was about eight, nine, or ten,his mother died (I should think it's possible for things/people to die in Slumberland...)...That might play a role as to why he acts in such a mischevious manner...*shrug*
Might I also add, that The Imp plays a big part in the story...Although in the comic, he is found by both Nemo and Flip, in this story he is mistakenly mailed to The Sun (lol, that sounds completely strange and wrong) while he's a toddler or so, and acts as an (unintentionally pesky) little brother to Flip, who is completely abhorrent of the idea, but grows to care deeply for him.
Well, that's the very (and apologetically-so) long, jumbled up jist of it. And if you've made it to this point, darkcharna, well done! If you have any ideas (though I have a feeling you're probably sick of this by now, lol!), feel free to tell me! It's always appreciated.

I am in no way sick of this. You made my day. You know, your drawings told so much of the story, I figured some of that out. I wish someone would take your story and make a movie about it. It sounds so cool. So, somewhere Dinah didin't like Flip? Is it because of the Professor? Awww, I want them to stay together! Oh well, it makes for a great story!
Yeah, this is random, but I was watching Family Guy, and Mickey Rooney was on it! I thought, O my gosh! It's Flip! I was freakin out! I never really have seen him in anything other than Little Nemo.
I love that you gave the Imp a part as a brother-type. It's such a good little love story!
From looking at one of your pictures, I thought something bad had happened to Dinah. I thought she may hve died! Flip was sad and crying (I think). I'm so gald that you wrote all that! I'm not much of a story writer, so I don't know how good my ideas would be.

(Oh, gaaaawd...So sorry for the belated reply. X(...Well, better late than never. Like, a month and two days late.)
I'm glad I made your day! You've totally made mine (repeatedly) with such wonderful comments. It makes me glad someone's actually interested! That'd be so great if it could be made into a movie...Argh, wonderful. I actually want to try my hand at animating and maybe make a little animation of a scene. (It would no-doubt take forever and probably be uber-crummy!
But still...)
I'd say at the beginning, when they first meet (which is pretty interesting, though not quite developed...lol, like everything else ), Dinah's a bit weirded out/offended by Flip, who treats her in a bit of a boorish, lackadaisical manner.
Also, there (maybe) is a bit of a rivalry, due to her being an inhabitant of Slumberland, a realm of night and sleep; while Flip's the son of the Sun and a dweller of...an opposite-ish, but nearby place to Slumberland?--I honestly don't know--I still need to work it out; but according to Wikipedia, Flip is not originally from Slumberland...Maybe it could be a floating city on a cloud in the sky...lol, or maybe you could give me an idea, darkcharna.
Professor Genius comes later in the story...but he does cause problems for Flip, but not in a typical way. Hmm, he still needs a good name. Suggestions?
omg, I actually just watched that bit of Family Guy! Scary as heck, but I still laughed my head off! You've never seen anything other than "Little Nemo" w/ Rooney? Well, I'm sure you've seen "Fox and the Hound"...He plays adult Todd... If you can, you should rent some of the movies he did with Judy Garland, like "Babes in Arms." He's not really my favorite actor, but he's very good and has done some great films. (It's kind of strange, but his singing--when he's, like, in his 30s or so--sounds a bit like a young Michael Crawford.
)
Yay, Imp! He's so fun, and I could just totally see him hanging around Flip and the gang (both figuratively and literally) like the stereotypical little kid-brother.
About that picture...I still haven't decided if it's relevant to the storyline, so don't you worry...(yet)! And yes, he was crying. I think I just wanted to draw a dramatic pic of him, but, eh, who knows! lol, I don't quite kill off Dinah! That'd be too harsh...I mean, Flip's mother already died, so that'd kind of suck to have another central female in his life push up the daisies...She does get sent away, though, according to one of my ideas.
I'm sure your ideas would be fine, darkcharna! They'd be appreciated, that's for sure.
Once again, sorry for being so late about getting around to this reply. Hopefully, you're still interested...if not, that's okay; I hope you enjoy it, nonetheless!

I would but problem! I stepped on my digital camera and sent it flying straight to it's own little hell. It's shell is cracked, two critical parts are shattered and the lens is currently missing in action. I feel so dumb for stepping on it too

...Aw, don't feel dumb...Just be more aware next time. I've done similiar, if not WORSE, to my own stuff in the past--Now, I'm all super paranoid and careful when I handle my gadgets and junk.
Hey, what about scanning it?
