In China and other such countries that are overpopulated with high levels of poverty, it is not uncommon to see an animal that those in the better-off countries take in as novelty pets up on the market. Out there, you either eat the chicken or you get eggs from the chicken. Same with cows and other animals you can get more material from, like milk. Many families cannot afford TWO cows or chickens or pigs or anything we take for granted in a 'better' country, much less eat one when they do have two. So, they eat something else in abundance; dogs, cats, monkeys, etc.
I agree with someone down below; I am appalled more at the treatment of animals used for food than I am angry about the animals being used for food.
I commend the photographer for showing us the markets in another country; it is good to see how other people are living and sometimes it takes just that to make someone see just how much better off they really are.

Too small to be a thylacine, sadly. Looks like your common mutt. Besides which, I doubt they'd allow anyone to remove thylacines from Tasmania if they found any still around; technically, Tasmanian Tigers are extinct and have been since the 20s, though people (credible people, like rangers and other officials, to boot) have been reporting sightings of them off and on for almost thirty or so years now.
Nice catch though; surprised anyone actually remembers what they looked like.

Even though I am still young (11 years) my lifelong goal is to revive the extinct creature, to see it alive and walking around. I have studied up on this animal for months, and actually it was extinct in 1901. I'm glad that amazing people have found a newborn cell and have actually revived it to a premature newborn. And this is why I want to be a conservationist.
I thought it was from way back when they were still alive, thinking it must've been a pup, but looking back at the picture now, the photo is too high of quality to be from that long ago. This photo makes me sorrowful for the mutt, but very well in your work. I approve.I do not approve of the concept, but of the photo itself.

I liked the photo mainly because it's a look at a culture much different from my own. I understand the subject is sensitive to many people, but it's life. You scrape to live and whatever's at your fingertips that is edible is free game.
I didn't take the photo; just a passersby who found someone with similar interests in my own and figured I'd help clear something up is all ^^

I've never personally had it, but I've heard the meat doesn't have a lot of flavor and its very greasy feeling. I'm a dog lover myself, so I probably will never be able to bring myself to even try it.

I understand killing and eating animals for food, In those countries animals such as cats and dogs and horses are a food source. The only thing I have against it is the inhumane way the animals are treated before death in some cases.
But this is a lovely piece of artwork displaying a different culture and I do congratulate you on the deviation.

In some countries they do. In other countries people eat: pork, bovine meat, lamb & mutton, goat, fowl, frogs, snakes, alligator, snails, fish, shells, primates, insects... anything edible.

People who are getting mad ate something like this please note that its different in other parts of the world personally I love because it describes the aspects of a different world much different then America, Canada, the UK, its a fact, I have dogs of my own though so it puts damper on me fully enjoying this art work but nonetheless i love it 
As far as I am concerned I think this picture shows a great understanding of this Place and its people, So I just believe it gives a deeper understanding

The shot disturbs me, but it's because the shot itself is disturbing.
For the people who are getting upset because it's a dog, please understand that this isn't considered cruel in every culture. Dog, for them, is just as common a meat as chicken and beef is for us, and it's been like that for a long, long time. Not every culture is the same, and the folk who have been raised on a cultural diet that goes back generations aren't awful people because of it. It's just like we omnivores shouldn't be considered awful people to the vegans and vegetarians out there just because we eat meat as part of our diet. Some people eat chicken, some eat insects, and some eat dog. I don't like it, and you don't have to like it, but please accept the shot for what it is and don't say harsh things about a foreign people who are only living the way that they're used to.
