I'm sorry. But I bet this won't get half as many hate comments as a non-gore taxidermy picture will get. :/ Amazing double standard on DA.

Absolutely gut wrenching to think people have to live off companion animals. Even worse to see in a market.

What makes you think they have to live off it?

Dog and cat meat is hardly a 'last-resort' type of meat in the countries in which it is eaten.

I'm sorry. But what makes you think that there is a dichotomy between companion animals and food animals? Is a pic never worth to be a companion? What makes a cow so much less worth?

Because dogs have been bred for thousands of years strictly as companion animals?

Oh no. I have no real issues with people eating what they can to survive. Food is food.

Cows, chickens and pigs all can be companion animals too. Just most people associate dogs and cats with being man's pet, a companion, and that is their sole purpose for being domesticated.

Like livestock for food, milk, leather and fur, also work/carrying loads. They can be grouped as companion animals but that wasn't "man's first intention" so to speak.

Actually in some parts of the world dogs are raised as livestock for the purpose of being food.
It's all the same to them, and I respect them for it.

Yep its a culture thing. It's just taboo in some cultures since they see dogs as a companion.

However many cultures eat things that makes members of other cultures shudder. Like parts of India eating cow is taboo because it is a sacred beast. Some Judeo-Christians believe that the consumption of pork is taboo; but most American's love bacon. In parts of Mexico they eat insects ( I even partook in eating grasshoppers when I was there). Koreans eat sannakji which is octopus pieces that are still squirming with life. The French eat snails.

I live with some marines that claimed to have eaten dog/cat in the Philippines and said it wasn't bad at all. I have even eaten snake and bear before. I have heard of many even stranger foods. Personally some of them I wouldn't want to even attempt to eat, but my mother always said, "You can't dis it until you try it." LOL I have even seen this scene in the shops of "Chinatown" in Los Angeles, CA when I was a child- that's when I discovered that some people ate dog.

Would we say it's cultural if we found a group that habitually raised people with the sole purpose of killing, butchering, and eating them? I think not...

Yeah there is such things as cannibals [[link] at one point of time. Which done exactly what your implying there. And yes from an anthropological point of view, they would consider that a cultural habit or ritual. Kuru [ [link] ] is a disease that a person gets after consuming the flesh/brains of another human via cannibalism. "It is now widely accepted that Kuru was transmitted among members of the Fore tribe of Papua New Guinea via cannibalism." Hence yes It could be called a cultural habit of the "Fore tribe of Papua New Guinea." Some of these people even evolved to the point where they have an immunity to Kuru- meaning they have been eating humans long enough for the genetics of their makeup to change to facilitate the consumption of humans.

Also relating to your assertions. [[link] Soylet Green is a fictitious nutritional wafer made out of recycled dead humans to sustain a population of a dying planet.

I suggest you take some anthropological, multicultural studies at a local university/college before you assert illogical reasoning with no supporting facts to back up your claims.

Have a great day, and my friends say that Korea serves some mighty fine dogmeat dishes.
