yes. there is a difference from mane smudging and painting. painting is when you redo the entire thing, using base colours from the old mane. and smudging is when you smudge more onto the mane to make it look the way you want to.i hope this helped.

Hmm.. this is a really good tutorial, althoguh me being a horse owner and lover have to give some crits...
the texture of hair that you get when using this method is that of a shetland or fjord... more bristly, thick, etc.

if you want wispy, feathery hair like arabians and most other larger horses

you should set the % of smudge to around 60-75% instead of 75+

It helps, but it looks like you painted everything more than smudged it. And I was talking about body smudging before.

oh, hahaa.
and i just realized that the mane looks funny because i cropped out the body. but the horse was originally running. a still horse should never have a mane like that. XD
