I was under the impression that it was based on the actual Chinese Amulet Coin, which was a coin tied to a piece of string that was said to grant good luck, especially in terms of acquiring wealth. under that understanding, the effect makes more sense. it isn't necesarilly a literal effect of people being compelled to giv eyou more money, so much as the idea of attracting mor emoney into your life being represented in a simplified game the only way it could make much sense: increasing the yeild gained from the orimary source of income in the game, winnng pokemon matches.

I think it may be that when you have the amulet coin, you throw the Amulet Coin in as part of the wager as it is very shiny. Thus, the opponent must ante up to match, so you make them double their bet.
If you lose, you make an excuse about your Pokemon being hurt to back out of the deal.

Someone needs to hurry up and invent a real-world item that (legally) does this.

I've always thought the Amulet Coin hypnotized the other so that they'll give you more money automatically.

If you watch the new season, you'll notice that the pledge changes each time. Pretty clever on the writers' part.

don't you know?
once the money goes to the player's hands, it instantly doubles!
(The item actually creates counterfeit money.)

I think the amulet coin simply divides the dimensions into two, so you have two versions of the same trainer to give money to you.

I guess the Pokemon world does have all kinds of weird rules. In X and Y, I believe you're able to stack the Amulet Coin on top of the silver and gold writs of challenge to increase your winnings quite substantially.
