The joke is even better if one knows Japanese enough to know that four in Japanese is "Shi". Guess what the word for death is~

The word for death in Japanese is also "Shi." That's hilarious! However, I think in the place of four, "Yon" is used more often. :3

That's a bit more convenient, otherwise it'd be really awkward for George to go visit Japan.

"Shi" is Japanese for "four". Shi is ALSO the Japanese word for death. Also, White in Japanese is "Shiro" and is considered the color of death.
I believe in a certain harvest moon (Or animal crossing, can't remember which) game if you were to check your TV when the time is "4:44" you would get a super long text box displaying a bunch of fours and some Japanese letters (Kanji maybe? Or maybe it's Katakana? Hirakana?), presumably translating to four.

Ah, okay then. Well being someone who never played Animal Crossing or Harvest Moon, that does explain why I don't get it.
