Description
This is just a coke can, and you don't have to say anything about the lighting, I know it sucks. I just hate things like that without lighting, it's tacky. And I didn't make it a scrap, cause I've noticed a lot of people don't view scraps. But I am really trying to get better with my modeling skills, I know the tools, I know the software, but when it comes down to modeling, I am just not the best. And if someone knows where I could find some images of can labels, that would be great. Cause I really do not want to re-draw one.
But tips on the modeling would be great.

Wow, I didn't notice it was a digital peice of art until I looked at the full view - I was sitting here trying to figure out how you got a label off a coke can. If by modeling you mean composition, I know that I use the "Rule of thirds" as much as I can. Basically, you act as if there's a grid over the picture, dividing it into thirds both horizontally and vertically. Wherever the lines intersect are normally nice places to put a focus. I tend to like the corner intersections. Hope that helps.

Awesome! I love the lighting. Sooo was this made by revolving a curve? That's what it looks like to me, but then the top would be hard to model... I guess polies would be logical toooo... But yea, awesome. And thanks so much for the suggestion of HDRI lighting! I looked into it, and I've somewhat learned it. ^___^

No problem, and yes, lathed the main shape of it. The rest was all poly and sub-dividing. It took me about a day, I somewhat followed a tutorial on it, but it wasn't very good, so I tried to just do it on my own.
I now love Polys though.

I am a total poly freak. I use them for everything other than revolving and random shaping, like in 'Pixeltown'... But the shapes came out a lot less smoothely than intended in that one... So I'm probably never going back to NURBS for a lot of modeling. But yeah, agreed!

3d Studio Max 7, I love love love Studio Max, a lot of people don't care for it much. But I think it's simple to use, and has an amazing interface.

excuse me? Like 75% of 3d modellers use max. It's like the most popular app in the world. Untill maya became more mainstream it was the most popular.

I know it's popular, but a lot of professionals use Maya anymore, because there are just some things Max is terrible at, such as NURBS. They even stated in one of their user manuals, to not use this program for NURBS.
And it just has some other various bugs. But don't get me wrong, I love it, it just has it's problems.

everything has problems. Maya for example eats your pc's resources instantly.

Sent you a coke label to your email. Small, but might work ok.

Thanks again, at work right now, so I won't be able to do it until later tonight. They don't like us installing shit on these computers, especially illegal software.

It's not hovering over it, it's actually going into the plane a little to make sure it doesn't look like it's flying. I guess it kind of does though.
