Description This is the Redcap, a particularly vicious Boggy. Redcaps are about 4 feet tall, are known to be able to bite through the hardest of substances, at the very least an adventurer’s bones, wear iron boots, wield cold iron halberd and wear a red cap soaked in the blood of their victims. They always look like old mean men for some reason as well, did they used to be another race or patriarch from one of the existing Boggies or even one of the Hobb races and then get corrupted? No one knows how Redcaps come about, as there are no redcap females, but everyone knows to fear them.

Yea, it siad they could bite through metal, but this is too stupid for me to swallow as tasteful or realistic fantasy, they're clearly biological creatures and made of flesh and bone so no, they can't bite through metal anymore in my fantasy world, maybe bone, but what the ignorant people from the dark ages didn't know is that metal is much MUCH harder than flesh and bone, especially on an otaomic level and if a Redcap could do this he would be a robot, a constuct or an elemental, something NOT organic. So, changes had to be made in order to make a realistic world of fairies, monsters and creatures. Suspension of disbelief is a big factor with modern day fantasy lovers and biting through metal with bone teeth wouldn't have worked and the players would have looked at me like, "Really? Really dude? He is eating my sword? I'm done playing, this is retarted.". However, there could be a legendary sproggand who has metal dentures or some augmentation, magical or otherwise, that has turned his teeth to steel, but even then i doubt he could bite through metal as his jaw muscles arent robotic pistons.

ha, true, true. not ot mention the mettal shards would rip their throats apart.

actually that has never dissuaded dnd player,s metal eating enemies. such as the rust monsters, abberrations capable of rapidly oxidizing metals and consuming the rust. actually found the idea rather clever personally. had to keep you on your toes and change strategies on the fly.even in my mythos a normal sword, while it can kill a demon, even strong ones, is still a normal sword. if the mosnter gets the blade in its fangs it will crush it.

I like rust monsters, they don'e "eat" metal, they toutch it with their antenae first thenit turns to rust then they eat it with their delicate mouths. The redcap basically stucks metal in his mouth and chomps and swallows it, no rusting at all.

true. though i guess it depends on how you think it can work. when i make a creature, i sift through the folk lore and details, remove the more sillier aspect of the blatantly religious ideals, and find the creature there. i always remove the religion aspect, cause that violently limits the potential for the idea and because of the factors of my mythos. if i followed those details too closely then i could not incorporate the creatures or ideas properly.
