Description
This is a skeleton. And to be honest it's a zombie with no flesh, but different in one way, necrotic energies completely power its motor functions, so skeletons move fast and agile because of magic and no mass holding them back. They aren't as strong as a healthy adult human though, but only being a slight tad lower they are dangerous as a single unit.Mindless undead? Not sure, up to your fantasy and world. I've seen some where they are still possessed with the soul of the person who’s skeleton it belonged to in life, some are mindless undead like zombies, and some are animated bones brought to unlife by evil spirits or demonic intelligence. Animated skeletons are ambiguous like that.

Wow, this one looks fabulous! Very detailed and anatomically accurate. We can even tell how the poor bastard died!
... Plus, that moth is just pure win.

skeletons play a big part in my story. though they are less used as this, but oftne contain the soul of a departed person, though not necessarily of their original host.
i have several entities i call Bone Men. bone men are souls of people bound to this earth, and to their bones. kind of like an accidental lich. often clothed in what they wore in life, eventually the dark energy that moves them corrupts theri clothes into more dramatic wears. a suite of iron armor of simple make can turn int osomething sauron would be jealous of.
bone men have two deadly weaknesses. their skull contains their soul. also, unlike msot beings, using up every bit of their inhuman energy will detach their soul from the world. a greater danger is that their bones can become so charged with energy that, upon death, they'll explode violently.
other than that, bones themselves are used in blood magic.

i have a character who is a bone man. a very powerful one too. he has an enormous vendetta against a certain being. kind of inspired by the Skull Knight from berserk, bone men.
bone men are rarely evil. while not good, considering their souls have to be at least dark, they are violent men who died unsastisfied and questioning their existence. they, to continue on, feed on the souls of the most corrupt, absorbing their souls into thier being. once used up, evil souls simply fade to the hereafter. oddly enough, they hunt mostly other undead.

thank you. they are one of my favorite inventions.
they also are one of the few beings, i would like to add, that can kill a lich indirectly. referring to the lich putting its soul into an object for safe keeping, the body is but a medium. it would take but one blow from a bone man to kill a lich, and lich are their favorite prey.
still, bone men are dangerous and best put down, like msot undead, as they disrupt the passing of souls, intentionalyl and accidentally. however, like i said, that is difficult. they feel not pain, and their weak point is not a commonly known and might be hard to locate on an older specimen. they also have a kind of mechanical strenght to them too, though it depends of what their clothing or armor is.
however, they do not heal. thus old battle scars can be exploited.
