Description
This is a ghoul. This is what most pop culture horror movies/videogames confuse a zombie for. Ghouls eat flesh; ghouls move fast, ghouls make other ghouls my wounding.Ghouls are also created from a particular debaucherous human dying and/or a cannibal human dying. Ghouls are also where the vampire legend came from originally. It wasn't until the last few hundred years that the ghoul/vampire became more "sophisticated" and intelligent. Vampires drink blood, so do ghouls, vampires make other vampires, so do ghouls, vampires are fast, so are ghouls. But vampires can be prettier, not ghouls.
So they used to be the same thing, now vampires made a name for themselves and are different thanks to the theatre and nosferatu blurring the lines.
Ghouls are semi-sentient undead, they need to eat and are about as strong as humans due to the flesh of others keeping them strong, they are debase and animalistic though. Ghouls are originally an Arabic mythology, and have pretty much stayed consistent. They eat the corpses of the dead.

i actually have my own ghouls. they are thin yet muscular, there skin is grey, they have no eyes (just empty sockets), they cant feel pain (instant wounds will still do them in though), they have a full set of canine teeth and in combat they go straight for there enemies neck, skull or spine to be broken. Their weakness however is that they are next to brainless in intellect. So damn stupid in fact that when in pursuit of someone if they were to trip they would just drag themselves on after a few minutes they would realize what happen'd Β and it would be even longer for it to realize it should get up! nosferatu wasn't pretty, but more independently intelligent...I hear vampires are lusty creatures...their genitalia stricken with permanent rigor mortis, pretty to look at and seeming constantly aroused, they fatally seduce the unfaithful housewife... so I hear......you seem much more well read on this.

So you're telling me... my whole belief to the identity of a zombie is totally twisted?? Damn.. just to clarify, where did you get your information from on such matters?
Oh, and I love your artwork and monsters!!

I'm a lore whore. I have a ton of mythology books. That and Wikipedia works as a great suplement to these as well.

I dont know when they got renamed zombies, Romero used the word Ghoul in Night of the living dead but the word Zombie in dawn of the dead. Doesnt really bother me but it does kinda remove from the actual mythology of voodoo zombies.

Digging into guts, skulls, etc...not the hentai purpose, calm down, you will get a normal death from this one, no tentacle rape.

I tink I heard at least one redision where a ghoul was more like a humanoid slime thing; big and bulky with weird strechy ablilities that it used to open graves to eat the corpse withen.

I was going to mention that the name for ghouls come from Arabian folklore (ghul, ie Ra's al-ghul)
For the SSU we have the ghouls as Arabian demonesses [link]
What do you think?

Wow. That's actually pretty close to how I always pictured ghouls. All the characteristical bits are there. The unbelievably long tongue, the big hands to dig open graves and the general corpsey looks. Great job.

despite your disdain for the likes of resident evil type movies, this guy obviously draws some inspiration from them. altered physiology and specilized structure for killing prey.
unlike zombies and such, i think media was kinder with vampires and werewolves. instead of just making most of it up, like they did with zombies, i see them more combining the features of several vampires myths into one whole, as they did with werewolf myths. specifics of the vampire powers can be seen in many myths. i ahve heard of a russian vampire who shapeshifts. vampires with strength. weakness to sunlight. all combined together.
the only thing they obviously made up is master vampires turning into super forms, which started i think in castlevania. to be honest, it works. vampires are demonic, so why not have their leaders be closer to their unholy origins?
.......kinder except for those who think you can kill a vampire with a WOOD CHIPPER

true! kind of gets too odd for me though. so many questions. such as if the belmonts were a kind of superhuman race.
if there are other beings like dracula in existance.
where the fuck are all the angels?
and why did they so violently downplay the aiblities of the monsters in the best 3d version, lords of shadow?

When i say i like the Castlevania series I don't mean the belmonts, their kinda cool, but i dont think of them much. I like this huge castle with ALLL this magic. myth and fantasy in it. It's its own world, I would live there if i could, it's so amaizing. I imagine it's even iternesting being a ghost there. In this gigantic citadel-like castle you will find giant haunted libraries, huge graveyards, expansive alchemy labs, olde crypts, beutifulo gothic gardens, under gound water caves and all sorts of creatures; medusae, flesh golems, ghosts, wraiths, mermen, fairies, plant girls, evil knights, succubi, demons galore, even demkons from the Goetia book, like Baal, Azagal ans sutch, werewolves, giant spiders, it's AMAIZING. I wish they made an equivelent updated version of it that lived up to the Symphony of the Night version. The new one is cool, i still havent played it.

still question what the belmonts as supposed ot be.
the castle is indeed an intriguing construct. it has lead me to imagine a lot of things. but it raises the question; if there an opposite but equivalent thing? where there is darkness, there is light.

I honestly think the Belmonts were a side note, a mere vehicle in which to explore the real focus of the game, Castlevania. They weren't important really.
An opposite? Well there were angels and good things in the castle to. The castle wasn't all horror, it was all fantasy, there were faries and orcs and satyrs and water nymphs and celectial beings waring with demons. Somehow the castle was a magical place where all the supernatural world congregated. I ask myself, looking at this wonderous castle, would i really want to keeop the leader of this caslte from taking over the world? Maybe the typical D&D fantasy world is a world that long ago was conqured by dracula and he merely expanded what was in his wonderful castle into the world. But that's not the case though, instead his castle seems to be the lat haven for the supernatural world, good and bad.

thogh strangely enough, even the angels are attacking you instead of aiding you. maybe i would understand alucard, or that guy that guy that could steal demon powers, but the belmonts were divine in power.
though you are still right. they should have been mroe creative with their idea.

I think the angels attacking were just a function of game play philosophy. I wont sat Casltvania was a literary achevement, it wasn't. As such you are looking too hard at something that was really quite shalow, it was just a fantastic monster mash game. It was fantasy for fantasies sake, but suprosingly very accurate fantasy in many cases. You should check out castlevania wiki, it's amaizing. But i wouldn't wonder too hard why angels, fairies, water nymphs or acid frogs attack you, it's just a game at this point.
But the inplications of what it could be are what is amaizing.
