Description
Kobolds, or German Gnomes. I think Kobolds are like Gnomes but less inquisitive and more scrappy and shy. I don't think Kobolds are as mechanically inclined as Gnomes, but they are unparalleled miners and smiths. Dwarves probably like them more than Gnomes.I imagine they are about 2.5 feet tall with brown skin and white hair. I made them a little scrappy and less human than Gnomes giving them tails and horns. These Kobolds are more in line with old traditional Kobolds than D&D's "Reptilian Dragon-kin". I don't know where in the hell they read that, I still have not found anything yet linking Kobolds to dragons or reptiles. I think that was a purely D&D invention. But in Mid-world I want as authentic as I can reasonably get. I also don't think Kobolds are evil or mean. They can be grouchy though.

I like the Kobolds as reptiles more than rats or even gnomes.

They should have just created their own reptilian little guys I feel. Real Kobolds in proper myth are just German Gnomes. They're just Gnomes. Like in the UK giant humanoids are called "Giants" and in Scandinavia they're called "Jotun" but they're the same thing, different culture. I feel it was a mistake on D&D's part and was a gross misrepresentation of mythology. Looking back I even think my Kobolds aren't good enough. I think Kobolds should just be literally Gnomes. I am consolidating the two in future iterations.

Yeah, whenever I type "kobold" into google images, it always shows reptilian dragon-kin, like you said. SAO has it wrong also.

Popular culture. D&D has hijacked many myths that they never created. Since the internet is based on popularity and not authenticity it will show you D&D or Warcraft Kobolds.

They remind me of warcraft's kobolds who were rodentlike(with candle heads) and more timid then evil in any real way. I really like these designs. The male one of course reminds me of someone rather smashing. [link]
