Description RMS Titanic as she was before she sank and how she is now.

The Bow Section of the wreck is pretty much intact as it sank completely filled with water. The breaking of the mast landing on the bridge along with the flow of water is what tore that apart leading to the ruined forward boat-deck as we see today. As of 2005 the bow mast that was lying straight on the boat-deck had now collapsed down to the b-deck rail and the crows nest has likely fallen from the mast down into one of the open cargo holds.

The Stern Section lies around 800 meters or 8 miles (not sure which right now) away from the bow with the stern facing the break area of the bow section. When the stern sank it was still full of air as it sank too quickly for all the air to come out like in the bow. As the stern sank deeper and deeper the air began to force its way out and at those depths the air pressure was destructive. A weak point was the open areas inside the ship around the aft well deck and under the poop-deck and so air blasted up the 3rd class stairs under the poop-deck causing half of the deck to fold back over onto itself. The deck of the well deck had also been ripped out from the escaping of air leading to the hull peeling away from the top there too.

The force of the water acting on the weakened hull around the break area began to tear the hull and decks apart, that is why the ship is missing a lot of the hull from where she broke. This tearing of the hull pulled the ship out of her vertical descent and so she turned to sink stern first and she hit the seabed propellers first. Upon impact with the sea floor the reaming air blasted out of the sides of the ship, tearing off the hull completely from the starboard side and blowing out the hull from the bottom on the port side.

There is only one thing left on what remains of the Boat-Deck and that's the Second Class Stairs which the roof as collapsed into. Around the break area the remaining decks have collapsed down onto each over the the first or second, they say the engines broke with the ship, are visible outside the wreck.

I wonder if the bow played more of a role in how the stern ripped apart from the bottom up being dragged down by the bow section. It would seem like the hull was peeled off rather than being forced outward during the sinking. The very end of the ship looks rather intact minus the aft deck being half peeled back.

the stern actually has a better chance of lasting longer than the bow since it has nerver been explored by the submarines not like the bow.

So tragic...just think, in 30 years she'll probably be completely gone. Bacteria eat away at the hull every day. She's dying with every passing second.

The icey cold water is preserving her! Bacteria does not eat metal , oxygen causes the rust.

They reproduce instead (as rusticles)

The so called: Halomonas Titanicae (Found on RMS' Titanic's wreck) is reproducing itself as rusticles for it to "eat" Hence, many years from now (soon) The Wreck itself will be a pile of RUSTICLES barely recognized due to the large number of rusticles on the wreck.

And getting worse with every passing second. I've been obsessed with Titanic since my youth. Last year on April 14th I held a silent memorial for the 1500 lost.
One of my fantasies is to one day get a close up view of the wreck, even though I know that its impossible. Its sad knowing that in about another ten years she'll be unrecognisable.

The stern mudline around the rudder should be higher, at the G deck level. The wing props were wrenched upward on impact and now sit at this level as well.

The bow should be longer at the aft end.

I posted some model photos in my gallery of the bow section on it's base, nearly finished. The clay ocean floor is next. Especially the mound of mud around the anchors.

The stern will follow as it's nearly finished.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Lex-the-Pikachu In reply to AceNos [2012-06-01 08:16:44 +0000 UTC]

yes it is. The stern still stands despite looking like a bomb has gone off inside her. Her engines still stand, her hull towards the stern still stands. The stern contains the things that made Titanic live like her engines and generators and most of people died on the pealed back Poop-Deck. The stern is every bit as important as the Bow.

But despite that, it is freakn awsome

Nice! Love the explanation you gave. It's very informative!
I just bought the recent NatGeo magazine that focuses on the wreck of the Titanic. James Cameron took another dive into the wreck and did some research with other Titanic researches.
From the recent pictures shown, about two-third of the promenade deck on the bow had collapsed to the A Deck. The remaining ones are around the first funnel and grand staircase area.
It turns out that she broke in half between second and third funnel, not between third and fourth as most people thought where she broke, dragging the half-broken stern down with the bow. As the hull is breaking from the presure, the stern tilts to the port side, sending passengers slamming to the port side railing. When the bow sunk down, the stern floats, making a near vertical angle, and then sank, sending debris all over the place from the opening. The boilers colided to each otherand sank to the bottom.
The bow side mast collapses as the bow sunk down, almost vertically, to the bottom. It crashes to the bridge and destroys it. As for the stern, the air pocket trapped inside forced itsway through the hull, and like you said, turning it around so her rudders faced downwards and tearing two-thirds of the poop deck and the well deck. As both sections sunk further, they glied down due to their shape. The stern turns around clockwise as she glides, breaking most of her weak hull and scattering more debris around before hitting the sea bed.
The bow hits the bottom around a 20 degree angle, breaking her hull and most of her decks. The stern continues to rip herself apart as her stern dug deep into the sedimen when she hits the bottom.
The magazine have the complete picture of the wreck, both for the bow and stern. It's a combination of hundreds of pictures taken and combined into one. It's quite detailed too. I think you should have a look if it!

I've already seen these new images and you have just said what i've said about the sinking basically and your wrong about her breaking between the second and third funnel. Titanic broke were she was weakest, the aft expansion joint which is right behind the third funnel, she split from there.
