Description
In response to the feedback I received on the previous two Aurora/Maleficent paintings, I now provide the climactic moment in the scenario. You were expecting perhaps something naughty? The final moments of "Sleeping Beauty" find the fairies Flora and Merryweather having a wand fight over the color of Aurora's gown. "Make it blue!" vs "Make it pink!"
If Maleficent had come out on top she certainly would have made it black!
If you like this pictute, you may like the series. [link]

I gotta say, with the Maleficent movie out now, this is closer and closer to canon.

This reminds me of Legend.
If you've never seen it,
you should.
Or youtube the scene of Lily dancin with her shadow.
You'll see.

Oh I saw "Legend" in first run in the 80's. I've actually considered doing a painting of the scene that you mention. I have included several images of Lily's black costume by other DA artists among my own favorites.

This actually reminds me of the scene in the movie 'Legend' where the Princess Lily is hypnotized by a dancing gothic dress and she starts to dance with it until the dress ended up on her body.

I have actually considered depicting that scene from "Legend". In the original screenplay, Lily was transformed into a werecat. Budget and technical shortcomings resulted in the the dress transformation being done with a jump cut.

Nice I like something different. But I've been wanted to ask you something. In your Aurora/Maleficent paintings, is Aurora under some kind for spell, or is it by free will? But I like it :9

LEXLOTHOR In reply to Izzy95 [2010-04-27 15:49:11 +0000 UTC]
The whole thing about evil is that there must be some free will involved.

Of course. That makes most sense I was just wondering. In the movie, it looked like she was under some sort of spell by Maleficent. I don¨t know what you were thinking, but this makes perfectly sense to me

Transforming a good character into an evil is a fascinating idea. What would make it more interesting if she was given the choice of turning to evil or suffering an escalating series of abuses, ultimately culiminating in death.

LEXLOTHOR In reply to QuantumInnovator [2010-02-26 20:41:15 +0000 UTC]
That is not the way I see Maleficent. She wants revenge on Aurora's parents for past slights to her dignity. Her curse was a sudden death not a lingering one. I interpret that Maleficent's thoughts about Aurora changed once the girl was no longer a useless infant but a desirable woman.
Maleficent's motivations were unclear in the film. I just brought them out of the closet.

So once Aurora grows up, Maleficient sees her as a possible ally?

Why have I never faved this? WHY?!
Anyhow, nicely done. Love the smug look on Mal's face. She's all like "That's right, you're MINE now."
Actually...The black looks way better than the blue and pink. (I remember watching the movie, as a kid, and thinking "Make it green!" XD But screw it, black works wonders.) I also love how it seems as if Aurora has now been "tainted" by this love.

I am taking this premise as far as the DA rules (if not good taste) permits.
I will be doing more of "Malora" /.
I am still working on a sculpture of Aurora in black in a Gothic setting.
as for "taint", its tured her GREEN!

Interesting....given the volatility of DW & Illyria respectively, I'd rather not be the middleman/rodent when/if their hosts get into a tiff...or pool their resources to Munkify the entire Earth. Dave might wanna sit this one out in the next dimension over.

Clever touch, that...kinda difficult to justify that direction for light sources except in particular surroundings, but does it ever work here.
...oh, snap. Just got a nutty crossover idea: Aurora filling in for Samantha from "Bewitched," famous broom-pose & all. Dick York need not spoil the fun, of course.

"I wanna see it painted, painted black, black as night, black as coal..."
Words nearly fail me regarding this piece's elegance. The sheer contrast of Aurora's golden locks (and blush...) with the Not-so-Divine Ms. M's horn/angular collar/raven-feather fringe ensemble...the top-notch shading & lines...all things considered, this is one of those pairings that needs no explicit follow-up.
