This is not Mars, though I wish it were. It is much more hospitable. One could imagine John Carter riding his thoat across this landscape. were I to tint this landscape red, one might also imagine the Curiosity Mars Rover rolling into view. This is in fact the Eocene Bridger Formation of southwest Wyoming. The rocks are stream laid sandstones and ash fall derived siltstones. The snow clad peaks in the background are the Uinta Mountains in Utah. Just on the other side of this rock wall, I encountered a rich exposure of fossil bones including several skeletons of Eocene mammals.

The sky is not pink and the ground is not red, but, other than that, this could very well be a Martian landscape. I love John Carter of Mars.
