Alrighty. *phew* This frickin' took forever. So anyways, these guys are The Forgottens, drawn for MyLeafyEntrails 's Game Console Contest. These were the consoles that everyone expected to do well but did just the opposite. Ironically, all four of them pushed their companies to bankruptcy or to the decision to discontinue any future attempts at creating videogame consoles. The public just wasn't inspired. The four from left to right are Dreamcast, Gizmondo, Atari Jaguar, and Commodore Amiga CD32. I tried to make their apparel match as closely to the consoles as I could while at the same time making the clothes look normal.
Here's a little background on each...
DreamCass - Based on the Sega Dreamcast. This console was designed to supersede the PS and N64 type consoles. It was known to be "ahead of its time" but failed to gather enough momentum to be a popular piece of merchandise. Sega pulled away from the console-hardware business after its failure.
Gizzy - Based on the Gizmondo. Released in 2005, the handheld Gizmondo sold poorly and the company went bankrupt in February of 2006. >> At first, I was going to make him a midget since he's a handheld but changed my mind. And yes, I realized his left arm is abnormally shorter than the other. The Giz has a gimp.
Jag - Based on the Atari Jaguar. It was released in November of 1993 with the expectancy to become a powerful Next-Gen platformer. It eventually wound up as a "commercial failure" and pushed Atari to leave the console-hardware business. >> I think I made her too red. Oh well. She's got a cool stance.
Amigo - Based on the Commodore Amiga CD32. This console was released at the Science Museum of London in July of 1993 and was based on the Commodore Amiga 1200 computer. Although a lot of effort went into making the console popular, it eventually brought the company to bankruptcy. >> His style of clothes is a mix of latin/early 80's since that's when the Commodore series was introduced. Latin because of it's name "Amiga." The console's colors were primarily grey, so I decided to liven him up a little bit.
And that's it. For the most part, I'm pretty happy with it. I'll definetely need to work on my lineart and shading skills, but I like how it turned out all the same.
