Rainbow Dash must have forgot, In the heat of the moment, that only Pegasus can be on clouds.Anyway the semester is over and now that I’ve heartily failed my finals I can focus on pony. Well maybe.

I guess Rainbow Dash thought her only option was to put the cloud under them and hope Twilight had cast the walk on clouds spell from Sonic Rainboom (which she had, of course, why wouldn't she?). RD had to condense the cloud because they were falling really fast and would have passed right through a regular cloud even with the spell. It makes sense in my opinion.

No, YOU make no sense. Cloudwalking Spell solves the whole infantile "mystery", or if you don't like that, then inherent pegasus magic.
Remember, Rainbow's cloud house has non-cloud items in it, so somehow she can make clouds semi-solid for objects and things that don't have wings.
If you want something more than that, do it yourself and don't say it makes no sense.

Well, either Twi did that CW spell on them or Rainbow used her own magic to make the cloud temporarily solid, thus explaining her continued whirling around it.

Since the Wonderbolts Academy is strictly for Pegasi I think Twilight did use the spell since she didn't know how much of the academy was clouds.

Perhaps it's something that they worked out over the years of their friendship. I just figured that, as an obvious safety precaution, the group would have worked out the need for Twilight to cast the super easy, three day cloud walking spell whenever they are traveling via hot air balloon. It only made sense for them to have casted it already just like at Cloudsdale. I figure RD was banking on it (the only other alternative for her would have been to choose which of her friends she was going to save). I admit that your argument holds plenty of water, however, I feel that they would have addressed this technique in show if this had been the cast (ie, Spitfire teaching it to them earlier in the episode or something; wouldn't have been too hard to work in). It simple makes more sense to assume that they had a pre-established plan for aerial safty within the group based on previously affirmed show canon.

The theory that "Pegasi can catch anything with a cloud through continous effort." fares much better. especially because RD was circling the cloud the whole time.

Based on the way she was compacting the clouds together and fact that she had to maintain a constant vaccum rather than just let the cloud be a cloud. I think she increased the density of the vapors. And as you can see from the episode, rather than just leaving them there, she immedietly propelled them upwards so that she and he fellow cadets could catch them out of the sky properly.

the more condense the cloud the more solid it becomes so condensing it not too much can make a sort of elastic cloud that will allow non pegasi to not go through the cloud

Thing is has this been shown or demonstrated in the before when it has been said that only pegasi can only walk on clouds. Everyone knows kids shows often establish then break their own world rules - and in this case who's really taking this flub seriously - but still for those who want to argue the point there is a difference and a mistake if this is something only noted in show notes the more serious fans might have read.
