Description

Notes:

Production on this animation started quite a while ago.  The idea at first was to have Pyra and Mythra using the glowy bits on their swords/armor to illuminate the environment, but to do that I would have had to render it in Cycles which would have taken at least a good few days to render.  As I kept working on it, the focus shifted more towards what it is now, which is why I ended up moving away from that initial idea.

I’m so happy with the sword attack that Pyra does.  It’s supposed to be the “Anime sword move” that they do, where they draw their sword and teleport through an enemy, then they get slashed a second later.  The sound effects carry here pretty hard, but I think my posing is actually pretty good.  And the fire effects look really nice too.

The voices aren’t my favorite, as their lines kind of feel like random clips taken out of context (which is exactly what they are), but I think they work well enough.  Pyra’s lines when she’s doing the sword attack are pretty good though.  It’s mostly just when Pyra and Mythra are talking to each other that they feel weird.  It doesn’t help that the two characters sound really similar to each other, so it can be hard to tell who is saying what.

I’m very happy with the effects that I used though.  It’s a combination of ROB and Ike’s sound effects from Smash Bros.  The super heavy sword clang that Pyra’s sword makes when she does the teleport is amazing, and it makes it carry so much more weight.  But the fire effects and other stuff sounds really cool too.

I also played around with a bit more cinematic camerawork here too.  For example, the shot where Pyra is drawing her sword, you’ve got this effect where the background sort of shifts around her despite her staying in the same view.  I did it by moving the camera backwards while increasing the field of view, which gives this effect like she’s focusing or powering up.
