    Story:


    Shionne was testing a new arte that she unlocked where she could flip a coin into the air and shoot it out of the sky to ricochet her bullet into enemies.  Just in case she hit something she didn’t want to, she decided to load non-lethal rounds into her rifle.  


    Looks like she still needs a bit of practice.  Hopefully Alphen will be along soon, as he’s the only one who can pick her up.

    Okay, I’ve been playing a lot of Ultrakill recently, and I think that like everyone else who has played it, I’m legally required to tell you to stop what you’re doing and go play it right now.  And yes, I’ve been playing Tales of Arise too.  Pretty neat game.  Feels like a budget Xenoblade, but not in a bad way.  


    I like making gun animations.  Shooting is a fun thing to animate, and reloads can be really cool if done right.  I haven’t gotten to do too many shooting animations because most of the characters I work with use swords or magic.  But it’s nice to just do some gun stuff every now and then.  


    The first few shots Shionne takes look decent.  I don’t like how her spine rotates up when it should realistically just move back, but her stance looks decent and it feels like the gun has kick to it, but not an uncontrollable amount of kick.  The reload is pretty clunky.  I didn’t have a model for a detachable mag, so I tried to have her load the gun from the breach by just putting the round in.  It looks a bit clunky how she just drops it in there, but it’s fine.  I don’t think the bolt on her gun actually moves in game, and if it does it’s very hard to see.  I ended up taking some liberties with it, like rotating the bolt up when the mag is empty so you can load from the breach.  


    I really like her shot when she’s shooting the coins though.  One handed rifle shooting is far from common, and I don’t think it looks like this when you actually do it.  I wanted to have some visual variety though, and didn’t want to just stick her back in the same shooting pose she was just in taking the scoped in shots.  I also didn’t want to bother putting her left hand back on the gun because it would have had to be really quick as she had to flip the coin with that hand.  The shot is very much inspired by Dark Pit’s final smash where he holds his staff-rifle with one hand and shoots people.  What can I say?  Smash has a bunch of cool concepts.  


    I’ve wanted to do some kind of coin flip animation for a while.  Since I first played Ultrakill.  In that game you have a gun where its special perk is that you can flip a coin into the air and shoot it to do bonus damage and split your shot in two if you time it right.  At first I wanted to do it with Lyn using her bow, but I just never got around to making it.  But when I played Tales of Arise, I really wanted to make a shrinking animation with Shionne, and figured the coin ricochet concept would work well enough.
