Description
UPDATE: Results journal: fav.me/d9354vw My entry won 2nd place in the mascot contest! Yay! The first place winner, I must admit, was very deserving, as the character created was wholly unique and wonderfully original. Congratulations, Viinci ! Go check out the winning entry here: fav.me/d904r9v~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This is my entry for the mascot contest (fav.me/d8pf7ne ) hosted by
The challenge was to come up with a new mascot for the group, and to show off that mascot in a reference sheet. So I wanted to show my dragon from multiple views: a side profile view of her walking, a 3-quarter view of her flying (or floating?), & a back view of her sitting. I also wanted her to be able to be expressive, so I had fun playing with various expressions. Hopefully this piece will give you a good view of her wings, her markings, etc.

I have to admit, I love the way she turned out. I drew the original rough sketches and cleaned-up line drawings with pencil and pen on paper and did all the compiling and colouring within Gimp. (I just downloaded Gimp a little over a week ago, so I'm trying to teach myself how to use the program--this is my second trial-by-fire, so to speak.) So I'm not sure whether it qualifies as "traditional" or "digital" art. If you feel I've put it in the wrong category, please correct me.
This character, the design, and the art belong to me. Only the DragonsArts group will have permission to use it as the mascot if my design is chosen. Otherwise, nobody but me has any rights to use, copy, distribute, download, upload, print, etc. this piece of art for any purpose whatsoever. Please respect my copyright.
Soli Deo Gloria!

P.S. Update: I just want to say a big, hearty "THANK YOU" to for requesting this piece for their group gallery. It is truly an honour to be asked! Thank you so, so much.

No problem. It's an international site, after all, which is part of the niftiness of it--that artists can connect to other artists in all kinds of other countries with a few clicks. I'm just grateful that you're fluent in English! (Because I am, sadly, not yet fluent in any other languages.)

My pleasure
It's hard to use sites like dA without being good at other languages, especially at English

Aww, thank you so much! What an encouraging thing to hear. And thank you so much for the "watch"! I really appreciate your support of my art. God bless you.
Here, as an unworthy expression of my gratitude.

Have you ever thought to try your hand at animation? Your style would be lovely for some whimsical shorts :3

Oh my gosh, that is such a compliment! Thank you so much for noticing! That really means a lot. Interestingly, most of my official training as an artist (not including any inherent talent gifted from God) came from an animation class taught every Saturday at my local art college that I took for about 5 years spanning all of my highschool years. So yeah, my style is very cartooney 'cause that's the style of art I love the most and it's where I got most of my training. So for about 5 years, I did a ton of character design and traditional animation (yep, pencils on paper over a lightbox--this was back when an animated movie did NOT necessarily mean computer-animated). I don't know if I have the patience to actually make any more little animated shorts at this stage (it was very, very painstaking) but I do LOVE designing characters. Anyhoo, you have no idea what a compliment and encouragement your comment was. Thank you so, so much! Seriously, God bless you.
(Here, have a llama! )
