Detail shot: clickyThis started out as a sketch for figuring out some commission related angles and patterns and promptly spun out of control over the past few days, not leaving me alone until it was all done and wrapped up. Those forehead spider ideas really have the worst timing!
As for what it's about, a lot of things. Old things rotting away and new things coming around, the last song of a bird blooming into a lily, pinned butterflies and of course forehead spiders. And ants! Ants are important. Well and maybe a pretty princess. Fairy princess. From the swamps of undeath.
Now that all THAT is out of my head, back to work!

It's those horror stories of bugs crawling into your ear and laying eggs in your brain. I love the way the spider looks flat on the forehead as if it really is inside her. Do those branchy things over her head actually spell something or am I looking too far into it? The melting, dripping detail is really nicely repulsive and somber when you think they might be her tears. Interesting how you've used a peacock color scheme for something that usually isn't associated with being pretty. It would have been much creepier if her eyes had a filmy appearance like she's blind.

Anyhow, the stuff over her head doesn't have any letters to it, but it does have some distorted symbolically spider-shaped parts. Similarly the 'frame' at the bottom has some butterflies, a spider and a bird going on in there, although since it's all so dark and busy, it's not entirely apparent and mostly there for my own amusement.
Having the eyes filmy would make it creepier, but it would also break the connection with the viewer. Pretty much everything in the picture is in some way corrupted, filthy, drippy and really not the sort of thing you'd want to be anywhere near. The eyes are there to contrast with all of it, and draw the viewer back in with the slightly pleading, innocent and childlike look.

Very lovely and I enjoy seeing the odd 'dark' picture from you. I like the kittenish blue eyes especially, as they lend a troubled sort of innocence to all the horror around her, as if it is a part of her, she is scared of it, but also, she is aware that she belongs to it.
