That last post may have sounded a bit negative; I didn't mean it to.
Its just that much your collage work reminds me of many familiar styles.
But without a doubt, every artist has been influnced by someone else in
the art world. Its a continuous cycle.

Looks very much like something that 'somevenus' would make; was she an influence?
Forgive me if I am mistaken, but as I have looked closely throughout your gallery, it
seems to be made up of works heavily influenced by many of the artists I've seen on
dA so far. Is this intentional? Are you a homage artist?

I made this one not long after finding somavenus and looking at it now, It really shows.
I try not to be influenced too much by other peoples work b/c I'll spend so long trying to get it as good as theirs I end up never being happy with any of my outcomes, and I never develop at all.
I usualy base my work on a feeling that's stuck in my head, a memory, song anything that means something to me, that sticks with me everyday, and then try and recreate it with whatever I have around me *paper, scraps etc*. which is hard because everyone's perceptions are so different. and I'm a perfectionist so it takes bloody ages
I still get influenced alot without realising, I'll do some work at college and everyone will see it and think "that reminds me of that advert", then I'll remember I saw that advert scrunched up on the floor on the way to college afew days before..
as does everyone.
*stops rambling*

Sorry for the really long post; without a doubt one of the longest posts I may ever submit on dA....
but it might be worth it...
One could say that there is nothing new being created in art; everything that can possibly be done in
art, has already been done. One could also say that anything that appears today is either a recycled idea,
something that is heavily influenced by another artist, movement or style - or is so ugly that it only passes
as an attempt to be original and most often struggles to set itself apart from everyone else. Many artists
may feel insecure about this and may deny it up and down, but for some, there is no other truth.
People will look at my work and say it looks like so and so's art or it reminds them of this or that. I've come
to accept this, because even though an entire group of people might say my work is original, I know there are
several other people out there who's work bares at least some resemblance to mine. Of course, there may be
arguments as to whom was the pioneer of our specific style or method. But the truth is, both of us will have
taken our influence from someone else. Both of our styles are an amalgamation of someone else's style.
I realise I may have contradicted myself in the way I critiqued your work compared to what I am saying now,
but I have never thoroughly thought about this idea of 'originality' and how artists become 'unique'.
I think when it comes down to it, all we have is the ability to be unique. I see 'unique' and 'original' as two
different words. Unique, would refer to our capacity to utilize the existing styles and methods that have been
defined in art. Originality however is something that rarely happens and probably won't happen very often.
One might know when something is original when they can't possibly think of anything similar at all that has
come before it. It would have to be someone who has seen a LOT of art in their time and who has seen every
possible medium used in every possible way.
Many artists will come across as unique because of the way they apply techniques and use materials.
Many artists have been through stages of creating work which resembles past or similar movements and styles.
For some, its almost essential to do this, because they will familiarise themselves with what already exists.
Through this process, most artists will eventually find their niche and can develop a unique character to their work.
If you keep at it long enough, you will eventually find the particular element in your process of working, which you
will be able to call unique and it will start to show in your work.
Thanks for reading.
Keep searching and keep making art.
