Description On tumblr

I hate to be the one to always moan bout good ol times, but seriously... In AC, hidden blade was wow supercool assassin prestige woah! And then came Ezio with his gadgets... Especially the crossbow. There was no point in even getting close to the target when you could just quickly kill them with one bolt, loot 'em and get two or so in return. And then Connor with his default tomahawk... I didn't even pull out the hidden blade during the whole game. Maybe when it was required for full sync. Maybe.

And then Haytham... I don't have a problem with that, ya know. Especially when I finally got to read Forsaken and it makes a whole lot sense. But yeah, the blade was strictly an Assassin thing for me, their signature... and now it's gone.

Okay, I don't really have time to type right now, I got a friend breathing down my neck. She's watching me right now. Technically it's my bday party so I really should go.

No. He was Assassin-born - never an actual Assassin. The blade is a trophy.

At least, that's what I can remember ^^'

I only just started playing Brotherhood and....well through all the games I preferred the long range weapons, I ABUSE the hell out of the throwing knifes in all the games, but I do use the hidden blade just for the hell of it, nothing's more fun the walking behind someone, assassinating them then walking away like nothing happened and watching people scream and run away because SUDDENLY DEAD BODY!

Even better when you kill a guard on the roof and drop his body off it...I probably have to much fun in this game. Ether way I love this.

A million years later and you get a new reply. Lol

I totally agree with you one those throwing knives! I used to just play with the short sword and long sword and occasional hidden blade. Then I started killing guards from high perches with throwing knives.... I have toooo much fun with that now

And now I want to hop on AC and have more fun doing that

xD I'm so slow with replies on this site so it's all good~ But yeah killing in that game is oddly soothing? I think the overall scenery and general gameplay of it adds to it, for a game about murder it's pretty chill. At least when compared to other stabby-stab-stab-murder games...

I can't agree with you on that. Mention at least one cinematic trailer of AC in which the hidden blade hasn't used or appeared. It's true that in the gameplay having different gadgets is an immense change, but the hidden blade is iconic. It still has a meaning, every time someone mentions AC, the white hood and a hidden blade is what comes to my mind.
The Tomahawk, the hidden gun, the crossbow are all weapons that are efficient, but common Β in their respective periods (Well, apart from the hidden gun, since it was Altair who developed it and Leonardo perfected it).
But the hidden blade is a symbol that Ubisoft created, and even after new gadgets keep being added, even after all this time since the first game, whenever we think about the hidden blade, we still admire it, it's still the weapon that we, AC fans, admire the most. And that, my friend, is the greatest prestige I could ever ask for.

LilayM In reply to HeadPhoneActress12 [2014-06-12 19:44:28 +0000 UTC]

In no way am I saying the hiden blade disappeared, it did, however, lose the status of the assassins' primary weapon. It used to be the coolest, deadliest thing you could wield - nowadays it's like an old, rusty pointy stick compared to the uber-weapons we are given. And it's not really the hidden blade kills that are advertised as the most "cool" in the cinematics anymore (every cinematic MUST show an epic kill with a new superweapon - be it tomahawk, pistols or phantom blade). I understand why it happens, I know that this is the way of the industry and I'm not saying I utterly dislike it, still, my initial claim stands - hidden blade lost its prestige. Not completely, mind you, nonetheless it's not what it used to be.

Yeah, I see were you're coming from. You see, it's nice to have some debates over different points of view without starting a complete shitstorm of rage. I wanted to say my opinion, and now that you've clarified your point, I can see the way you're thinking and I agree with it.
You're right: That's how industry works. When you make a series, you shouldn't make the next game exactly like the last one. However, there are some things that Ubisoft should try to be more Β innovative nowadays, and they are only focusing on the new weapons and gameplay when they should be caring about the characters for once in a while. Like what has happened in Unity. Ubisoft insists on making these awesome new layouts and new techniques, but at the same time, being stubborn about a male protagonist. By the way, I really liked your drawing with all the protagonist and Aveline just sighing in the corner^^

Thanks a lot! : ) Though if we believe what ubisoft says, Arno is an assassin 'with a wit as sharp as his blade' - so I'm putting really high hopes in his character. Especially having been utterly disappointed with Edward's (I'll give him credit tho - still not far into a game so he's got a chance to redeem himself yet).

Damn, I know I'm one of those "good ol' days" gals, but I can definitely see why Ubisoft does what it does XD After all, the game can't stay just the same, right? And they're taking the easiest route. Meh, maybe it has some merits. Still, my sentiment remains. As for a male protagonist... damn shame there ain't a gal, though if there were a 'she', we'd have been deprived of Arno so I can sorta live with that. For now.

HeadPhoneActress12 In reply to LilayM [2014-06-13 00:44:38 +0000 UTC]

I totally agree with that ^^ I dont know, AC4 felt more loose, it was more about piracy than the previous ones about the creed. I basically only like the Kenways because there's so many comical material for them XD I think their fans make a better job than Ubisoft when it comes to them.
Honestly, even though I love Altair, I can help but to feel a deeper connection with Ezio's story. Maybe it's because of his companions and his friends that he encountered, I feel more attracted to the whole Renaissance idea (Leonardo da Vinci, Niccolo Machiavelli, Cesare Borgia...) Maybe it's because my father has always had an interest for Italian culture, so I think I've inherited that trait of his XD I'm also portuguese, so since both my country's and Italy's cultures are both Mediterranean cultures and the languages are similar...Meh, it's all a matter of preferences when it comes to the fav game or fav assassin, I don't think the fans should fight a lot about it, I don't find it the point in it.
And about Arno, I agree with you as well. You see, for all that we know, it has been revealed that he joined the Creed after the death of his adoptive father (typical dead parents AC layout), but apparently, he blames himself and he's working as an assassin in search for redemption, not revenge.
I kinda find that quite interesting, and it's a bit of a change at least. I just hope they won't throw that side of him, because I have high hopes for him as well. He clearly seems the classiest of the assassins we've seen so far (not counting with Haytham, since he was a Templar), and I love his whole design. Plus, this year in History, we've studied the revolution in detail, which makes me even more pumped for this new game. I learn french, so I hope the game will have its own share of the accent and vocabulary ^^ So, like you said, I'm gonna handle it.

Hahah, I hate in-game Edward (so far), but my headcanon!Edward (all my versions of official characters tend to be goofier for jokes' sake) is a guy I adore xD Just gotta draw more of dem Kenway comics... which are currently on hold for Arno's sake. When will I get to draw original stuff, I wonder.

Heh. Somehow Altair managed to captivate me despite the game being poor in general. I don't know, maybe it was all that "hey I'm an arrogant prick but oh wait, deep inside I actually THINK". The courage to question the 'obvious' is a trait I really appreciate in people so maybe that's why it resonated with me.

Ezio... he's charming, I loved him in the ACII. But when it got to the third game, I was so utterly sick of him and his "ubermentore" thing. In ACB he was pretty annoying, too. I don't like how he was written as the only guy who actually did something. Everything. Single-handedly. But again, this is just my opinion.

HAhaahhaha, hard to argue the "I LIKE something", since it's ALWAYS a fact XD Yet still, we will find dimwits who take it as a personal strike against them. Idiots.

Classy. Yup, that's the right word. Classsssssy.

HeadPhoneActress12 In reply to LilayM [2014-06-13 09:46:26 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I think every assassin has its own special thing to it ^^ Even if they are some that we like less... I still stand by my opinion in which I like Ezio the most, but you are somewhat right when it comes to the ubermentor thing. Maybe that's why that in characters, I prefer Leonardo. He's like my spirit animal, we both are quite alike. I just feel sad that they underrated his character in Brotherhood with all that "Ezio knows everything" stuff. I love their friendship, but at the same time Ubisoft didn't think it through. Leonardo was supposed to be Ezio's closest friend and mentor, and they just ignored that. Thankfully, there are still some moments that didn't neglect that side of their relation. However, I wished that he had appeared in Revelations.
Ahh, another character I love: Yusuf. He was absolutely charming. It's too bad that he died, I feel so sad about that ;3; Seriously, grumpy old Ezio did need Yusuf's cheerfullness for once. Like you said, the ubermentor thing.Β
But yeah, overall, I see where you're coming from. Why you prefer Altair and such. But I still can't prefer the others over Ezio. I don't know, it's just this deep bond, I felt attached to him. Well, at least I love Leonardo a bit more than him^^Β
And I'm glad you agree about Arno xD

I know, right? Yusuf was probably the only thing that made ACR somewhat bearable. He was the real star of this game! Brightened up my day whenever he showed up. And he died like a sucker :C I mean, noble death, but quite pointless. One I think the plot didn't require, but they did that anyway.
