The fight is getting heated on the hands of the clock tower. I do my best to protect Basil, but he always gets in the way by protecting me instead.I tried to stand in front of a wounded Basil, my arms spread out, trying to shield him from Ratigan's fury. Not caring who he struck, the monster swiped down at me with his deadly claws. In the nick of time, Basil grabbed me and swung us around so he was the one to take the hit.
Basil: *bites back his scream as his back is shredded*
Me: *crying* BASIL! Stop it! You don't have to prove yourself to me anymore! Stop trying to be a hero!
Basil: *grunts and falls to his knees, carrying me down with him*
Me:Β I don't want you to die!Β *clutches him tightly*
Basil: Anna... I'm not trying to prove anything. *Looks down at me with a pained smile* I'm just protecting what matters most to me.
Me: *tears streaming down my face* Basil...please!
Ratigan: *laughs maniacally* Go ahead, great detective! Protect her all you want! I wonder how long either of you will last!

Basil and Ratigan belong to Disney's "The Great Mouse Detective."
Just more ideas for my fanfiction, "Silver and Gold."
There's no blood or anything, so I don't think this needs a Mature rating. The violence is no grander than the one in the movie.

Β The colors and shading looks stunning, it looks like it just came form the actual movie!

This for me is one of Disney's most painful moments. Like seriously this scene (and movie in general) was incredibly dark even for Disney standards. No wonder I had an obsession with it when I was a kid.
Also kudos to them for getting some of the most brilliant cast imaginable for the film.

Yeah, this is the sort of "dark" that Disney did right. The 80's was time period where animated films became heavy and dark...and Disney tried to get onto the bandwagon. It failed with "The Black Cauldron," but luckily "The Great Mouse Detective" saved the company and made way for the Disney Renaissance.
It'd be nice if Disney could come up with more dark moments. Kids can handle scary themes. This movie is a perfect example. I was terrified of a couple of scenes in it- but I kept coming back to it because the dark elements fascinated me.
Yeah, it was wonderful seeing Vincent Price in this movie. We even got to hear him sing. <3 RIP Vincent Price and Barrie Ingham (Basil's voice actor).

Not just Disney, but Don Bluth was also making a lot of darker films at the time like Secret of NIMH and An American Tail. Fitting as he used to animate for Disney. And personally I actually kinda like The Black Cauldron. It's not one of the better Disney films out there, but it has it's charm to me.Β
The scene where Ratigan loses it completely and each time Fidget made his dramatic appearences terrified me as a kid, but it did get it's point across that Ratigan is less than humane.
When he was offered the role he had stated it was a dream come true for him as he had always wanted to voice in a Disney film. At that point he had mostly done a few B-grade horror flicks (some of which are in my movie collection) and some comedies and even the creepy voice in Micheal Jackson's Thriller. Yeah suffice it to say he's one of my favorite actors of all time.
