Organic, in the sense that..hmm..
If I was a Mr. Potato Head with a body, I would have arms and legs and eyes that suited my dimensions--my..*grin* eternal makeup. My hands would fit the size of my body. My head, albeit large (as that's the cuteness of a Mr. Potato Head) would suit me too. All the parts..the pieces..would fit together, like a strange and intricate puzzle, every piece strengthening and complementing the other. Something about the content and the art design..for me, (and remember, this is JUST me; the sewing/fairy/emotional poets may LOVE this, hard to say) is just not working.
I bet the art, by itself..is just fine. One color, why shouldn't that work? But when you plug those puzzle pieces of the Interface in..hmm..It's like Post-It notes on an apple. I go..huh? Something is just not working. Whether you need to INCREASE the contrast between the colors of the function boxes and the art, I don't know. But it's blue on beige to me. And neither component is helping the other too much.
Your other design..is more organic. The nav buttons are in a good place, the rainbow racing stripe sails through the design like a road, bringing the eye to the nav buttons. The body shot is just damn cool. (Watch the use of mouseovers. Don't go nuts on that, unless you are EXPLAINING the mouseovers. People are idiots. People are lazy. They may not get to a next page because you stuck a mouseover in a place they thot not to look.
Again, strive for integration of elements, functions, copy, design, images. That one works better, it really does. It is..organic, like the stitches on a sleeve. Every part in place, playing a wonderful harmony with each other.
Heather, again, just my view. Do as you wish. Or as your customer wishes. You'll be paid for both, of this, I am sure.

I'm looking at this from a user interface point of view. Organically, it's just not coming together enough. Tho all the components ARE nice.
User interface. There's the trick.

can i ask you to elaborate?
i feel like i can learn a lot from the things you have been saying.
what do you mean by organically?
its poorly composed? is it too sketchy? too distracting and busy? what do you mean?
by hearing your complaints, id like to learn what kind of things you think make a good design for a website.

i am working on the new version 2, it has mucho more of this which you say you like. a lot more envelopes and cardboard and brown paper bags. and pen scribbles.
i wish it was in flash too.
i dont know how to use flash. i love flash websites, they are magnificent.
every tutorial and learning site that i go to for flash, is too confusing. i tried to make a simple animation, and dreadfully failed.
i make everything in photoshop and illustrator, and write the HTML code by hand.
it takes a long time.
do you think figuring out and learning flash is a good investment?
i think so..... ho humm.

!! i would love to hear anything you'd advise me with. anything at all, would help me out loads.
firstly though, as to not hog up too much of your time, do you know of any thorough websites that explain using flash, that i could go to, and read and learn?
hmm.. also, something i would like to know... instead of taking my photoshop work, converting to .jpg's, and slicing and writing html code.... can i bring my work on my website that i have already done in photoshop, into flash, and work it up, in there?
thanks a lot!
