Not that I know of! It's just something I've seen a lot in manga and anime, and it looks good and is easy to draw. Maybe that's all the reason there is to it

Hands are the bane of my existence.

Clothing folds are the worst! Especially flowing fabric, I just cant orz

Flowing fabric is why I refuse to ever draw an oc in a following dress. XD.
Even the basic folds of a shirt give me pain to be honest!
