Description
This is not your redemption, but forgiveness.I drew this for my first-even livestream, which was a lot of fun, actually, and not as nervewracking as I thought it was going to be. You know how I am about themes of forgiveness, saintly women and men prostrate with shame. I would definitely not forgive Hans if I were Elsa, but I think she would be a better person than me. That's why she's the queen.

Its fan-art, so unfortunately the characters do not belong to the artist so not much you can do. if the artwork was stolen/art theft`ed then this picture would have been uploaded onto another account in a copy/paste situation. The talent gap between the two artists means it would be impossible for the original to be completely copied. I agree that some credit or link back to this one should have been included ect.

The characters are copyrighted but the work itself is still a matter of intellectual property. Theft doesn't just involve taking credit for the original image, it can also mean copying someone else's ideas. The topic of art theft can be subjective though, so if you see it, you'll know it.
It's the same reason traced anime base art is considered theft. It has nothing to do with technical skill and everything to do with copying a specific picture without permission.
Here is a very similar situational example artfully-truthful.deviantart.c…
Even though the art thief has more detail and shading, they have clearly taken the pose, idea, and some elements of the style.
Credit would be nice but the best option would be to ask first. Most artists are flattered to know they inspired someone, as long as they're recognized for it.

Its a bit of a grey area as such. I agree that tracing is a big no-no
Referencing a pose for your own artwork is fine, its the line by line tracing ect that riles me.
I agree with you on the asking first I think in this case is a young artist using a popular talented artists ideas to gain views ect

I would report it but DA staff won't do anything unless the reporter is the original artist.
They do a lot of stuff like this and take other peoples' ideas of pairings they don't like and redraw them into something they DO ship. Anytime someone calls her out she just hides the comments. I really love your art and I recognized the rip immediately and I just wanted to let you know.

Eh, it's not similar enough for me to cause a fuss. And -- this is gonna sound really snotty -- it's not very good. This girl will find her style eventually without having to use other people's work. For now, hey, let her just feel crappy about it. No worries.

This is completely lovely! And forgive me a tangent where I say that while Hans was ee-vil towards the sisters, he was not necessarily a bad choice for Arendelle. I mean. He seemed like he was doing a pretty good job. I love this composition!

Well... I want to agree because he did wonderful things for Arendelle, but if the welfare of the kingdom got in the way of any of his particular ambitions, he'd throw everybody under the proverbial bus in a second, you know? If only he wasn't such an irredeemable dicknose! If he'd've been genuine, he would have made a great king.

lemonflower In reply to lily-fox [2014-05-31 01:44:42 +0000 UTC]
He was kind to the poor people without capes though! I think his ambition was just thwarted from being the youngest of so many royal sons - he KNEW he could do a good job, he just needed an opportunity to show everyone! But I could see him dicking over Arendelle for a better kingdom, yeah.

He helped people because he wanted them to love and respect him, not because he was interested in their welfare. Which breaks my heart, because it was such a wonderful thing to do! I'd love to imagine an alternate story where Hans was never evil, and maybe he and Elsa fall in love when they go out looking for Anna, who has by this time already fallen for Kristoff. But that's just me wanting everybody to have someone to kiss and hug.

In the movie? Yeahhh, I wasn't crazy about that part. I was making a real skeptical face for the whole last act. Seemed like they could have pulled that shit together more effectively.

Well, I did a little digging, and it turns out that Elsa means something akin to "servant of God" in Hebrew. Her having the capacity for divine forgiveness may not be so far off, and I wouldn't forgive Hans either for his hateful deception.

"You know how I am about themes of forgiveness, saintly women and men prostrate with shame."
Though I'm not going to lie, that sounds sexist.

lily-fox In reply to MetellaStella [2014-05-15 05:41:13 +0000 UTC]
In what way is that sexist? Explain it to me.
👍: 0 ⏩: 2
MetellaStella In reply to lily-fox [2014-05-20 01:26:26 +0000 UTC]
Well, primarily it's sexist towards men- they're lower beings that must grovel and be forgiven by noble pure women, and this is a cool idea because reasons.
It's also sexist towards women for idolizing them for being or expecting them to be "perfect" or near perfect when they are human and anything but.
Why would switching the genders make any difference anyway? Why can't a theme just be a prostrate person apologizing to another? Man and man, woman and woman, woman and man. We all wrong each other in the course of our lives, and should be duly humble and penitent about it.
I don't want to go all "armchair psychologist" on you, so I'll just leave it at that.

Well... I don´t want to be sexists either but...
It´s been proven that men, from their early childhood, acquire a certain conscience about evil and manipulation. Most of them are educated that way, some are just born with it, but the world of men is a though, hard and dangerous one. Every little boy is taught to be strong, so that they can survive. The closest example? the school: since their early childhood, boys need to learn how to fight, to throw a good punch, either that or they´ll have memories of how they were bullied most of their school years. Most males had at least one fight in their lives, or where bullied at least once.
Most women, on the other hand, are grown and taught to be like princesses, protected in a bubble against real evil, always innocent, always ignorant of the dangers of the true world. Until they´re thrown in it. That´s why little girls dream of true love and fairy tales in their early teens, while at that age, boys are already learning ways to just have sex. I don´t mean boys don´t dream of true love, I mean each one of us has a different conception of it.
I don´t mean either there isn´t evil in women, I know lots of examples of the contrary.
So, is it really that hard for men to "need" to see something pure, in the form of something innocent, that would procure them a piece of calm and tenderness in this crazy world?
In my experience, I´ve never seen anything more beautiful, more innocent or purest than a little girl hugging her papa with all her love.

I don't usually get into it with others, but I'm gonna say this: this is just a theme I like in art. I don't think women are perfect or men should grovel. These are someone else's characters, and they're not agender, so it can't just be a person and another person.
But I WILL say that I do believe most of the cruelty in this world is perpetuated by men, and those who feel protective of women and distrustful of men are definitely not out of line. If you want to try to debate that, this is probably not the place to do it.

I think MenollySagittaria means "Santly women" thus, standing higher above and "men prostrate with shame" being lower; either that or the fact that women are always meant to be saint and forgiving? idk.
I just love this piece to bits <3 Elsa IS a better woman than Hans deserves... that's why I love them.

And yes -- Elsa is everything in a human being that Hans is not. She's kind, compassionate and generous, and Hans is an irredeemable boil.

What a lovely image. Nice to imagine a contrite, repentant Hans.
I have said that I could only imagine Elsa (or Anna or anybody else in Arendelle) being willing to extend forgiveness to Hans, maaaaaaybe, if he had a complete, massive turnaround and worked his butt off for the rest of his life proving how remorseful he had become. It seems doubtful that a person capable of doing the things he did would BE remorseful, but I guess there's always that sliver of a chance. And of course the queen and princess (or the queen's hand, as Anna was so excited to be in that delightful cut song from the deluxe soundtrack!) shouldn't walk around being angry over him all the time...hopefully he'll receive justice for his crimes back home, and his family won't go easy on him. 'Cause dang, he very nearly killed a queen, in cold blood. So long as he doesn't get away with attempting to commit murder, let the princess die, and usurp the throne...they should be able to move forward with Elsa's reign.

See, now, it matters. Does she know how he treated little sister? Because I could forgive a dude for leading a mob to my (freaking fabulous ice-scape) doorstep, because they saw me go a bit nutters, peace out without any explanation, and freeze the entire country on her way out. I get that. Understandable. Douchey because most of those guys were there to meet her and try to become her king. But still understandable.
And given the fact that Anna and Elsa could barely get into greetings without utter tension-majeure, and the pace of the events...does she really KNOW yet how Anna had come to Hans to try to fix all of this crap, only to have him sneer and laugh in her face?
Because as much as I loathe my little brother on most days, if someone tries to bear up to him, they know not the meaning of rage until I'm between the boy and the instigator.
