Description
Another drawing for Heather Remaly's Ghosts Of Babylon , which WILL be continued! (I AM EXCITE)In the story -- and I don't think it's spoilery to say this -- Gabriel brings Audrey up to a cave high in the mountains where he sews up her cuts and sets her broken leg and such. When she has enough strength to be bitching about anything, he tells her she's not going to be leaving the cave, ever. He intends to bring her everything she needs, but keep her away from other humans altogether. At that point I had to step away from the computer and go punch some walls. I just started thinking of all the ways I'd try to leave, broken leg be damned.
Clearly things get better between the two, but not before they get considerably worse. He loves her, but to Audrey he's just a violent, possessive giant who doesn't know how to find clothes that fit her.
I don't usually bother with backgrounds or complicated shading, and I'm no Chris Van Allsburg, obviously, but this turned out pretty okay. Audrey surprised me again with her attitude. This is a girl who's not afraid to punch an archangel even when she can't stand up on her own.

Ha, oh yes! In eighth grade we had a... what was it, one year it was a writing club, the next it was storytelling, something like that - anyway. The librarian who was in charge of our club pulled out fourteen illustrations and told us the story of Harris Burdick and I went "what are you talking about, these were OBVIOUSLY drawn by Chris Van Allsburg" and he was put out because I was spoiling the magic and I was put out because he was thinking he could lie and get away with it because he's an adult and we're stupid and after about five minutes of this I chose an illustration and wrote a story. I wish I knew where it was.
Anyway, YES that lovely piece in the snow with the cloak is just like it! And the stories even got created to go with it, just as they should be.

Ugh! Is she gonna continue?!? The characters are so beautifully portrayed here and in the story. it just all moves together. I started reading the story the other day because of this picture alone and I'm so torn!I stopped reading fan-fiction for this very reason! My goodness I was crying by the end! And your Illustrations are perfect for this story. I kept this little running animation in my head with your drawn characters here.

If you ask me, there is not nearly enough art for Legion on DeviantArt. It is up to people like us to spread the love of that terrible movie/wonderful characters!
I love this! I read the fanfic and was utterly devestated when I saw it hadn't been updated in ages, so I lost hope of it ever being truely finished...but hey, we can always write our own!

This a wonderful accompaniment to a nicely written fic. I'm a big fan of Kevin Durand and his portrayal of Gabriel is breath-taking so I definitely appreciate your Legion artwork. This one particularly. You did a fantastic job with Kevin's face. I know you've struggled with getting his features down and this one is undeniably Kevin Durand. You did a great job capturing his brooding unhappiness and Audrey's bratty anger. I love this piece and wish you would give us more Legion fanart. All of your work is wonderful, though and I always enjoy perusing your galleries. Keep creating artwork, no matter who/what the subject is, and as long as it's something you've done for yourself and not to appease the masses it will be fantastic and I'm sure I'll enjoy it as much as any other fan.
Thanks so much for sharing with us and keep up the great work!

I remember reading that part and experiencing all that panic too. I honestly thought that was the most insane course of action, to hole some one up...even if you mean to protect and care for them. But apparantly things worked themselves out. The choice of books he brought for her is a bit of a hilarious scene though.
I think this really shows the height difference. Damn, Gabriel is intimidating in stature...but obviously not enough to frighten Audrey too much. Then again, after going through all that...well. Some things might just seem less scary. Or mileage may vary. I think that's the best bit of internet-news to recieve that the story -will- be continued. I still hopefully check it every coupledays/once-a-week when I remember.
And hey, I like the background. At least it looks like a cave and not one of those bouncy castle deals. That would be just too much fun to be holed up in one of them. I love the little frilled bit on her clothes and how you can get away without drawing every single feather on those wings. Respectable wings are hard to manage in my opinion.

You're back! I missed you. C: The books! I'd've been like "Philosophy? Well, you didn't bring me any toilet paper, so. Thanks."
In the story Gabriel's supposed to be like seven-foot-plus, right? Or was that just her panicked estimation? Either way, he's a big dude. I keep wanting to... what's the opposite of exaggerate? Minimize? I keep wanting to minimize his height.
HA! Okay, here in Hawaii, and I don't know if it's like this anywhere else, but here? Bouncy houses are a BIG DEAL. They're fucking everywhere. You don't throw a party without one. So that's very funny to me, imagining trying to keep Audrey in a bouncy castle with like a waterslide attachment. Certainly more comfortable than a cave!

I thought it was very liberal of him to bring her such books. But a 'Seventeen' magazine would have probably been appalling to him in content. Even compared to a book of philosophy. Books were a good idea though, even if not everyone can be an Emily Dickinson.
I can't remember, honestly, but I think it is seven foot something. I think it has to do with our perception of height vs equality? They're on pretty equal footing in the story, so he doesn't seem as...imposing. Plus The Noble Rot doesn't write him as being particularly threatening for the majority. I think the scariest he gets is that whole bit with Michael.
Oh lord. We have trampolines everywhere, but very few bouncy houses. Gabriel would have to stay outside though, with those razor sharp wings and all. :<

I just noticed you have two DA accounts. Do you? Is this one for something different?
Okay, if you were stuck in a cave and could request any books, which would you ask for? Desert island. C:
That's a good point, with the perception of his bigness. She's not so afraid of him once she's lost everything. Which, I guess, is part of why Gabriel was so scary in that moment -- maybe he felt he'd lost enough that if he had to go out, it was going to be in a destructive ball of fire.
Ha! Now I'm picturing a giant bouncy house deflating around the two of them! XD With that sad little balloon sound.

I'm transitioning to this account. Escape from (stubborn) old connections.
Hmm. I'd cheat and say "Just bring me my library". Buuut, if it was just general subjects, I'd like one of those anthology books we use to get in school for English class. It included a lot of brilliant stories and little mind activities. I'd want something I could enjoy, but learn from. So, definitly an anthology book of some sort. Or a massive book of folktales. Oh yes. Nevermind, folklore and fairytales it is. You?
A man without anything to lose is more...scary because they're unpredictable. Not nessecarily because they -will- do anything, but because they -can- do anything.
LOL, he would never live it down.

Anthologies, for content per volume, are a good idea. I've got a simpler mind. I'd ask for Bill Buford's Heat, Haven Kimmel's The Solace of Leaving Early, and anything by Anthony Bourdain, Carl Hiaasen and Chris Moore. And a crossword puzzle book. He'd just roll his pretty eyes.
You feel like telling me about your stubborn old connections? I've got a few of those myself, had to run from journal to journal in the past.

My gut reaction was 'The Entire Collected Works of Terry Pratchett', but then I tried to be practical. One can only read so much about Discworld. Anthony Bourdain crossed my mind. Cookbooks too! But they wouldn't do much good, being confined to a cave and all. Imagine asking for a kitchen blowtorch and a propane oven. Dangerous connotations there.
They're friends that things endedly badly with. I don't like to spy or be spyed upon, so the best bet I thought is a new account with a name I hope they're not familiar with. Remove the temptation and all that. It's a bugger to have to do it, though, isn't it?
